RG Neck Girth

RG experts:

Can you tell me if there are there any RG models (preferably MIJ) out there without thin necks? Not really a fan of thin, flat radiused necks, but have always appreciated the look of RG's/RG style guitars...

My RGT220A is a nice chunky neck. I have a 89RG550 with an orginal Wizard and a 01RG3120 with the new wizard neck and I like the Wizard Prestige best.

Check out the MIJ later model RG470s. They usually come with a Japanese spec Wizard 2. If you want a hard tail check out a 421 if you can manage to find one.

I thought the RGT's had one of the thinnest necks that Ibanez do, 18mm at the 1st fret and 20mm at the 12th fret? The Jem is slightly thicker at 19mm/21mm. Or the JS thicker still.

My RGT220A has the "Wizard Prestige" neck. I can feel a distinc difference between all three of my guitars. Thou the specs of my RGT and the RG reissues are the same of which I have played both my old 550 has a thinnner neck. It was explaned to me before here on this site that the old ones were milimeter thinner than the new ones.

there are rg's that have had thicker neck profiles, but they all pretty much have the very flat radii (usually 400mm - 430mm). sounds like the neck profile you are looking for is on the js series or the at300. they are more in line with fender neck specs, although probably the thinner fender necks and radii that is close to 305mm, which is close to 12''. the only rg styled guitar that i can think of that has had a neck profile like that is the rt450/rt650, which had the 'viper' profile, which is very stratty.

I was going to suggest the RT (retro RG) as well, just realize they have been out of production for quite a while. (~10years)

Other than that, you may want to try a previous generation RGT, such as the RGT3020. (~4years old?)
