RG250dx vs. RG350dx

Hello,

I'm writing because I want some advice on these two models. I can get the RG250dx for cheaper because it is used, or I can wait a bit longer and ge the RG350dx new from store. I don't mind paying a bit more, so what I really want to know is, is it worth it to spring for the RG350dx?

I can't find exactly which double locking tremolo is included with the RG250dx, all the websites I found just mention "floyd rose double locking tremolo". The new version (rg350dx) brings the edge-pro II double locking tremolo.

Besides the tremolo I think the specs for both guitars are the same. Is the new tremolo worth it or should I stick with the older one?

thanks in advance

That "floyd rose double locking tremolo" probably means Low TRS II. Stay away from that.

Go for the 350DX with the Edge Pro II. So far from this forum, the 2003 models are getting acceptable results.

Unless you want flutter . . .

A friend bought one, can't get the thing to flutter for anything . . .

Tried a couple in a store, again, no flutter. Just a THUNK and then nothing.

Also, stiff as hell and the tuning problems (non-locking studs) are there, pull up and it stays a bit sharp. This is on a tuner.

It also just FEELS cheap, insubstantial, if you follow what I mean.

I'd say save your money and look for a used RG 570 or 550, I think you'll be a lot happier.

The Edge IIs ARE much better than the TRSs, however and if you'd rather buy new and are on a tight budget, the 370 my friend has is a great guitar considering the money paid.

This is a Bay of Pigs type of question.

Simplest way to answer is. If you bought either one of those, and block off/not use the trem's. They are fine instruments (pickup's has to go)

If youwant/need/desire to use the trem like Vai or Satch. Get something above RG5xx series.

I would go with the RG350DX. The Edge Pro II is much better than the mystery FR Double Lock trem. It's not Lo TRS II quality even... But the Edge Pro II is still no Edge, and anything short of an Edge or OFR will leave you disappointed. So you can pay more for a still crappy trem, or pay less for a trem that likely wont work anyway. Thats the way I see it anyway. I would probably get the used one because it's cheaper. And then you can dump an Edge in there due to the trem post positioning. The trem posts on the Edge Pro II's are farther forward and it will be impossible to intonate anything besides an EP II in it. Or you could do some major work and put an Edge Pro in it. But I think it would be easier to get the old one, file away the offending areas of cavity and drop an Edge or OFR in it. OFR's take up less space by the way.

Thanks to everyone that has replied. I'm going to hold off on the 250 as per the suggestion of most of you.

For those of you that don't believe that the 350 is up to snuff, is there anything else in my price range (300) that is significantly better than this? Unfortunately I'm a starving student, so not much of a budget.

There are some closeout sales going on at ********, you could effectively get a 2002 RG570 for a little more than 300 USD. That beats the 350DX as far as everything goes, though doesn't have the sharkteeth (almost wrote sharktit) inlays

Could you email me the web site?

I've been looking for a "cheap" 570 for a while but no one around here has them.

Thanks,
Mic

Yup, with some routing and pulling the post anchors and doweling them, and re-drilling them and some paint and some . . .

Better to just drop an Original Floyd Rose in there, fits with no routing and it works just fine.
