RG321 vs. RG421

which guitar do you think's better?

I just got a Rg421 on e b ay. it's pretty rare. it's the first time I even heard about it. It seems exactly like the 321, except the 321 has a mahogany body and this has basswood. it's the closest to the PGM guitar there is which is one of the reasons i bought it.

I don't know how rare they are, but the RG421 is a very good guitar. As far as build quality, the 421 should be better than the 321 since it's MIJ but I still prefer the mahogany body of the 321.

I don't like mahogany ibanez's that much. doesn't seem right to me. mahogany sound seems so associated with gibson 24.75 scale instruments. for Ibanez, basswood is where it's at. I love the ibanez sound.

the rg421 doesn't get much love. I believe they are rare coz i never see them on e bay. i see plent of 321's though...

I tried a 321 in a store recently and was impressed with the quality. it really identical to the 421 the only difference is the way the andle of the neck (the japanese ibanez RG's seem to have tilted back neck.. the neck of the 321 is also a bit thicker.

they are 'rare' because they were made only for a year before being superseded by the 321.
