RG421 and RG321 Question

Ok ia m confused now, was the RG421 made in Japan? Now that Ibanez have their 2003 range out with a crapper version of the RG421 hence the RG321 (only difference is they installed PS pickups instead of V pickups )

Is the RG321 made in Korea now? Or was the RG421 made in Korea throughout it's release?

I myself have two 421s which I love. I actually would like to sit down with one of my 421's and a new 321 and compare exactly how different MIJ and MIK makes for. From what I remember the guitar is still built to the same exact specs. Binded neck and all. Maybe I shall see and post sometime...

I don't think I'll be getting one. Afterall, I just don't consider it an Ibanez when it's not made by Ibanez.

Maybe someday I'll get over the MIK thing. But not now.

I just played a 321 on Friday in my local music shop, and it was really good. I didn't bother plugging it in (I'd change the pickups anyway), but the unplugged tone was excellent, the whole guitar resonated well, and I really liked the neck.

In feel it was somewhere between the two (both Korean) Wizard II necks I already have, one on my PGM (thinner, almost a Jem neck in feel) and the baseball bat on my '94 rg450.

If I didn't have a 421 in the mail from a fellow JEMsiter in Canada I'd have probably bought it on the spot, without even plugging it in. As it is, I'm just really excited and waiting for the postman .

Btw are the necks of either the RG321 or RG421 have a Maple neck with bubinga (sp?) strips at the back of the neck or is it just plain maple neck?

Both my 421's, and probably all 421's, have no bubinga stripe. But they should all be 3-piece maple. Where normally the center piece is replaced with the bubinga.

As for the 321 I dont know. I would assume its a 1-piece neck coming from Korea but then again who knows...Korea makes neck thrus too so whos to say?

im the b00b who sold the guitar told Rich and messed up on shipping.

Im hoping he gets it soon and look forward to hearing so.

I bought a neckthru Kramer Baretta to replace the RG421. Total regrets. With the AANJ the 421 has the same upper neck feel, and it was built better (finish on the 421 was amazing in how ding resistant and scratch proof it is)

Im gonna see if my tax rebate is decent, I may end up pickin gup the exact model I sold to Rich. It's a great guitar (I made it a LOT better by switching the nut to a Graphtech nut, tuning was great)

Holds tune, sounds and resonates so nicely. Just a no fuss, fun to play guitar.

Im SERIOUSLY thinking about abandoning current projects to pick up a new RG421 and a new RG550. That way Id have both worlds at a decent price.

Darn neckthru Jackson's haunt me though, I still dream about my old SL2H :s

A certain online retailer has them for $280 still. I thought about picking up another, but I need another 6 string, fixed bridge guitar like I need a hole in the head.

the next Ibanez for me needs to be something way different.

Hey, it was a misunderstanding - and you took the 100-word email that would have been about 5 words after running through JEMsite's swearing filter with good grace .

Hopefully you've got your email by now - it arrived this morning, I've reconnected the neck and strung it and I love it. Immaculate condition and plays absolutely great, and it's cost me less (even after shipping and £45 of duties) than buying the 321 would have. Thanks!

I just played on a pair of '03 RG321 today, and I must say, I am truly impressed. Both of these guitars were outstanding! Even down to the pickups. I may end up buying one. The only thing I didn't like aobut the guitars were the colors, black and blue so dark it may as well have been black. Yuck.

Both guitars resonated well unplugged and decent fretwork. I think I'm in like.

Hi,

I've found a 421 here in Australia that I'm interested in buying. It's new (on the floor, Australis don't have any left).
Rec. Retail AUS$1,295 (US$853). What should I be looking at paying for this guitar?
AUS$1,000 (US$659) too much still?

Just did a forum search.
So you guys in the US were paying US$250 brand new when it was announced that these were being discontinued?

I'm guessing AUS$1,000 is way too much.
