RG421 musings...
Any RG421 owners here who have also had their hands on a USRG10? (or vice-versa, i guess)? What are your thoughts on the 2? The 421 is Japanese made, correct?

Glen, aka Jemsite, the site owner, has both. Go read his hands on report on the 421:

I own one also and want to buy another. They're great guitars for the money and just great in general. The Wizard II was a great choice as its still a Wizard but gives you a little more grip, at least for my hands.

I have one too, mine's got the
Tone Zone
in the bridge and the
Air Norton
in the neck, with no tone control.
I got the blue one, and I'm thinking of getting one to swirl.

Uhhhh.... what color is yours?
No, seriously... guess I'm just wondering overall how the 421 stacks up against the USRG10 (not talking about specs). Does the 421 feel and/or look like the cheaper made Japanese model that it is? See, i'm hoping it's so similar that i'll be able to settle for a 421 which is about 1/2 of a USRG10, proivided one could be found. Someday I'll HAVE to own a USRG but for now... a 421 is dang close.

It doesn't have the feel of being "cheaply made"... not at all... even though it is on the lower end of pricing. If anything, when you look at it's overal quality, you wonder why it's priced so low. The neck pocket is tight as are all tollerances (nut, tuners, etc). The Wizard-II neck has a better feel, to me, than the pricer RG5x's and DBK. The sparkle blue finish (w/o pickguard) is amazing for a guitar at that price. The
rosewood board
is nothing to write home about, but then again, neither is the boards on ibanez axes at 3x the cost.

I don't think Rich deals with these, but you should find out... then email Matts Music. I've bought a few used axes from Elderly to realize they're terrible "graders" who i would not recommend supporting. Good luck... glen

Sorry... you must have gotten that before my edit... My bad... Elderly doesn't have 'em at all.
Well, good. I kind of gathered from the review that it was pretty darn decent for the price. I'll have to start finaggling the finances now...

I've been curious about the RG421's for awhile. I'm still trying to find the perfect fixed or
vintage trem
Ibanez, and so far nothing I've tried is exactly right for what I do. Can someone tell me what the Ibanez animated
pickup selection
dealy (on the web site) is trying to convey for postion 4 (second position from neck)? I don't quite get the meaning of the faded color for the neck pickup. Also, are the Wizard IIs on these actually made in Japan? (I had thought all the W-IIs were Korean).

Glad to hear you think they're confusing too. That same sort of gif is used for other guitars too and I never figured 'em out. It's also weird the way the inside of the bridge PU gets colored a little bit for position 4. But that's got to be some artifact of how they created it. There aren't any capacitors in line with tone filters or something are there?
