Re: RG450?

Well if you get a 500 series body, then you can use an edge. Your 450 neck should bolt right up.

Re: RG450?

If you get a 5XX series body the 4XX neck will fit ok in the neck pocket, but the screw holes may not quite align. You'll most probably need to fill the holes on the neck with dowel (gluing them in) and redrilling. It's not an overly hard thing to do though.

Re: RG450?

On that "e-site where people buy and sell things," I've noticed 340's, 370's, and 470's, that look like the neck will drop right in and the screw holes line up. Pictures can be deceiving though. These bodies will work with this neck, right?
I like the look of the 470, without that big plastic pick guard on it.

Yes, as long as the neck joint is the same...

... and anything with a "4" as the first number takes the Lo TRS II, right?
Hey, how hard would it be to go with a solid bridge/tail piece on this guitar?
I also read that I could go with an official Original Floyd wammy.

Re: RG450?

There was one model RG450 with an Edge trem. Early model, AFAIK.

The RG4xx series is quite good, wood-wise! They are rather cheap because of the not-so-good pickups and almost-crappy hardware.

I have put DiMarzios and a OFR Pro on my RG470 and I don't regret it!
Of course I'd rather have a RG570, but at the time I didn't have that kind of money. I thought of selling it, but then I guess the guitar just meant a lot to me...

Re: RG450?

I have no idea when this one was made. There's a number on the back of the headstock. C413050. I'm guessing this is the serial number. Does something in this number say when it was made?

early rg4xx's had original edge trems, then switched to the TRS in '94 if i remember correctly.
it's a bit of a pain to drop a hardtail on a guitar of this type; there's a very good tutorial of one way to do it on projectguitar.com.
an original floyd absolutely will fit into a TRS cavity, but there will be a bit of a gap on the bass-side of the tremolo routing. the OFR fits right in and works very well, but if you're OCD about this kind of thing know that there will be approximately 1/4" of additional space between the bass side of the baseplate and the edge of the tremolo route.

Cool, thanks for the info.
I won the bidding on a black 450. I'll keep y'all posted as to how the project is going.

Re: RG450?

Well, I've got the guitar together last weekend. I wanted to hear how it sounded so I out-house engineered the broken TRS back on and slapped on a set of Ernie Ball 10's.
It felt and played like a beginner guitar.
On wednesday, the original Floyd showed up, and I've been tinkering with it ever since.
I did some sticker removal and cleaning too.

I'd like to set it up so that its not a floating tremolo. I have a couple random ideas on how to do it, but I'm looking for postings on this site dealing with wammy setup.

Not really! The early RG450s had Edge.

Re: RG450?

Well, I got it pretty much fine tuned, and plugged into my Rockman....... WOW, what a difference!
I went with D 'Addario 9 and a halfs as opposed to the Ernie Ball 10's.
Tuning took forever, though. It was starting to get frustrating.
I didn't have to re-tune as long as I kept my hand off the wammy bar.
The Infinity pickups actually sounded pretty good. Rinning through the bridge pickup, the guitar has sort of a mahogany bodied Gibson sound, similar to an Explorer.
Switching on the middle pickup gave it a hint of a Strat sound.
The neck pickup sounded bad distorted, but really good clean.

Re: RG450?

Wow, its been a while since I've been here.
I finally played it through my amp (Randall Stereo Chorus with two 12 inch speakers) and the Rockman for a preamp/distortion effect.
Basically it sounded like distorted tranststors, and I didn't really care for that sound too much.
I use this same setup with my other two guitars, and it works just fine.
I am starting to look into new pickups, and something to make the tremolo a dive only system.
I'll keep y'all posted as to how its comming along.
