RG470
I know this has been done to death.......BUT..........
I see some place (im not even going to save the name to save glenn some trouble lol) has RG470s mad cheap, my concern is the tremolo on the 470. TRS 2 or somthing? I know its a double locker, which is good, but ive only owned one other trem before besides the edge and it was a single locker, and broke strings left and right. well, and didnt stay in tune. is the 470 trem decent? i know its not as good as the edge, i wouldnt expect it to be, but im looking for real time opinions here. is it worth it for like 350 bucks?

The TRS works fine. I was recently having problems with mine after five years of use, but I changed the springs, filed the knife edges and it is as good as new. It will stay in tune for a week!

I'm getting a RG570 anytime now and what I've heard and read is that Edge is the best
Floyd Rose
out there. And what I've heard about TRS, well, it doesn't stay in tune.
So:
TRS II - No good
Edge - Excellent
I guess the few extra bucks for a RG5xx is worth it. You may wanna check this page out:
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/trems.htm
.
By the way I heard that it's better to run the strings into the guitar upside down. Meaning run the strings first from the wiring taps (what in the world are they called in English) that the "balls" at the end at the string stuck to the holes in the wiring taps. Then just pull the strings over the tremolo and cut them about there where the tremolo ends. Then just put them in and tighten the screws in the back of the tremolo. This might sound a bit unclear at first, but once you're holding you Edge
equipped guitar
you'll get the hang of it.

The 470 comes indeed with the Lo TRS-2.
No one can deny the TRS is a cheap version of the lo pro. But when correctly set-up, it works just fine (for a while anyway).
The construction method and materials used in the TRS are far inferior to the Lo pro. For some comparing pictures between the two tremolo's, click the following link and scroll down.

Saving some extra cash for a RG5xx would be well spend.
Cheers,
Joten

hehe thanks for the fill-in guys, but im well versed in
floating tremolo
operation (im still a little rough at the setup but its all good
) I actually currently own an RG570, but i love it dearly and dont want to do any kind of mods to it besides new pickups. shes like a daughter! (well more like my girlfriend, id go to jail for touching a daugter with that much affection :rotf: ) but anyways.....
the only reason im curious is because the RG470 is being moved out of a mail order net place (once again excluded to save myself from a reaming hehe) for like 320 bucks, which is less than i paid for my RG270 forever and a day ago hehe

i got a rg 570 on saturday for 400. i'm sure its worth the extra 80 bucks to get that over the 470. i got mine at guitar center, i just had to print the internet page out with the better price and they gave it to me. there discontinuing the gray nickel color so there not getting anymore of those(thats why its so cheap)and i'm guessing the ugly root beer too. probably coming out with an ex model like in europe or some new colors, but its not worth the wait or the extra money. i know were not supposed to say major stores and all that but if its going to let you get a much better guitar for only 80 more bucks, why not. go to "music 123 dot com". its a mail order thing but i'm sure you won't mind since the other place is too. they also have the 470 for 300 if your interested

i just looked back on that site, the homepage for the site has a big ibanez closeout deal banner right at the top, they have a whole bunch. the 470 is 330 there, it must have been 300 earlier or somehwere else. i'm guessing ibanez is having improvements in there models and/or colors

afaik, new 470s come with the TRS, not the TRS II. At least my one did.

I have an old RGR 470 (HSH) and it was and still is equipped with the Edge (not U2
)
tremolo system
which works absolutly fine. But it had those terrible Powersound PUs that I immidiately swapped for a Bill Lawrence L500 and
Seymour Duncan
SH-1. Now this guitar rules.
