RG470 or RG570?
I just bought a guitar from a local shop the other day for $195. I wasn't sure why he was selling it so cheap, but he said he couldn't move it. Whatever, nothing wrong with it.
Anyway, when I bought it, he said he thought it was an RG470. However, it has an Edge (not Lo-Pro or II) trem and I was under the assumption that the 470s didn't come with these. It's a Jap-made 1999 model with the V8-S1-V7
pickup combo
.
Did the guy at the shop mistakenly call it a 470 when it was actually a 570, or did they put
Edge trems
on Japanese made 470s in 1999?
While we're on the subject, can someone do a rundown on the differences between 470s and 570s? Previous attempts to procure that information have been unsuccessful/inconsistent.
Thanks

Re: RG470 or RG570?
Well, no a 99 RG470 would not come with an
Edge trem
. A 1993 would, but not any other year.
2 other things to look for on an RG570:
Bubinga strip down the middle of the back of the neck
Barrel-style jack with a plate on the back of the guitar

Re: RG470 or RG570?
It has the bubinga strip and I'll check on the jack.
Methinks it's an RG-570.

The stripe is enough. You've done very well.

Thanks. I thought so too. I was actually there to buy some new 6L6s and just took a glance at his used wall and the silver RG just stood out. I about crapped my drawers when I saw that he had $195 on it. I had to ask what was wrong with it and he said he'd marked it down from $295 because he'd had it since early November. Heck, it would have been a good deal at $295 for that matter.
I was short on cash so I traded my cheapo Washburn D10 solid top acoustic and my Yamaha SE612 +$10 for it. Don't get me wrong, I was happy with the Yamaha because I've always felt that Yamaha guitars are a good approximation of
Ibanez guitars
. No more approximation for me now!
Now to get some quality pickups for it.

Yes, with the exception of the 1995 RG570CT model.

Re: RG470 or RG570?
Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I'm still stumped on the difference.
Yesterday, I picked up an RG470(That's what the seller said it was). According to the serial number, it was made in 1992 in Japan. Super thin neck with no stripe on the back, Original Edge, V8, S1, V8 pickups and a square neck joint.
The guitar plays amazing and lightning fast...So yeah...What's the difference between this one and an RG570?

570 has barrel input jack
470 has regular style input jack with a 2 screw jack plate
also
570 has contour(guess that's what it's called), on the square neck pocket models
470 has flat back on body around the neck area(again square neck pocket model)
