RG550 1990

Hi, im thinking of buying a 1990 RG550. Anybody had any experience with one of these or own one? Ive heard there pretty good but would like a few more opinions. Also how much would i expect to pay for one in very good condition?

dont pay too much...there are a lot of 550.but they are great.plays good. i should put EMG or dimarzio in them.its a guitar you can modify and don't be scared to gig with or take it on the road.i like the black one the most.thats a classic.but the neon collours are great too!but the 570 is almost the same.
try and buy if you like it.

ok thanks for your opinion. Is £350 a bit pricy for one of these in desert yellow?

theres a rg dy 550 on evilbay at the moment.£350 not a bad price,decent guitars,if you dont like the pickups just change them.im sure the lads on jemsite will give you good advice on pick ups.

No, that's about right. What's the condition like? Look at the hardware (trem), make sure it doesn't look too worn out. Also check for cracks around the lock nut area on the back of the neck.

In USA 550's cost practically peanuts, but even here in Europe they can be found for slightly less, often they have also upgraded pickups. In my experience Desert Yellows don't pop up as often though, so my opinion would be to go for it if it plays well and if you want that specific color.

For what it's worth, I have a '90 RG550 and it is construction-wise and hardware-wise the best 6-string I have played. Built like a tank.

ok, its actually the one on 'evilbay' im looking at buying. Hope i can win it, it looks in really good condition. I heard floyd roses are a pain to set up, is this true or does it just take a bit of persiverance? Ive never had a floyd rose before.

The seller sent me lots of good close up pictures and all the hardware looks in great condition, and theres no cracks on the back of the neck either, it all looks pretty good

Unlucky mate. But you'll soon pick up a nice rg550 in no time for £300-£400 in the UK.

You pay shipping and tax, but it still can work out to be relatively cheap
