rg550

hey i was wondering some specs on rg 5 series are they any good ? i know a guy with one well we think its a rg550, its a japanese made guitar and has dot inlays with a floyd trem. its got a swirl paint job and a kind of not done so well monkey grip but good looking lions claw behind the trem, and a nice jem style jack. i was wondering also what somethign like this would be worth. or how muhc a normal rg550 would be worth. we think its from 1990. any input would be appreciated, thanks !

Re: rg550

Depending on the condition of the guitar, I would say that an RG550 would sell for anywhere between $300-$600 depending a LOT on the condition of the guitar and any modifications that have been made to it. Since that particular guitar is about 15 years old, then I would assume that the frets are pretty well worn and would need to be replaced if they haven't been already. Also, check for rust on the trem, the nut, and the tuners.

Re: rg550

thanks for the reply. i do not think it was a 550, but maybe a 70 or something. it had a rosewood fretboard, and had the pickup cover on the back, but it still had screw holes for a pickguard, so maybe he put those on it. were there any rg's that came with the pickup wiring stuff in the back but still had a pickguard? the hardware looked almost new, a little dusty but seemed really clean. played nice. anymore info would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: rg550

Yes there was, Rg770dx had clear pickguard but I don't know about the rosewood fretboard, 770dx had maple fretboard.
