RG550 "Bad Horsie Project"

Since I'm getting the EMG's for my JEM, thought I'd put the Evo's to good use in my RG550. My RG is also in this highlighter orange (isnt this color called "Flare" or something?. I want to strip this thing down to natural color. But since the thing is basswood, would it look ok in a natural? Any finish suggestions?

This is not a good wood for clear finishes; It is quite soft, and does not take abuse well.~www.warmoth.com

Basswood can be an ugly wood....some have green/gray streaks going thru it.

A good thing to do is a burnt stained finish like the BSB, but I would put a clear over the stain.

the BSB finish is a good idea, but I would do another colour, may be red. I wouldn apply a clear over it though. If you take proper care of the guitar, the stain on the body should last for a very, very long time (provided taht you arm doesnt sweat when you play). It looks much, much better without the clear. You can compare the JS1000 BTB finisj vs the 7BSB to have an idea of what I mean.

Basswood is very soft thought, and the guitar will get its share of bruises with time. They really dont show of in the BSB finish anyway

Project guitar has a good tutorial on the BSB finish.
The guitar in the tutorial is mine, its held up to 6 months of almost weekly gigging and has had no visible finish wear or defects. However, Brian, put a light clear coat on it.
