RG550 bridge adjustment problem

I need to lower the bridge on my R550 20th but the bolts just don’t want to turn. Could it just be because it’s the 1st time the bridge has been lowered ?

I reckon I could force it lower but it will take significant pressure. My other floyd guitars, including my Jem are not like this.

Any one experience anything similar ?

Thanks

Re: RG550 bridge adjustment problem

WHOA! Wait.

Check that the locking studs are unlocked before you force anything. I don't know for sure if the 20ths have locking studs, but let's assume they do.

Take the smallest allen wrench, and stick the long part down into the anchor post (it has a small hole down the center), and try to see if it will stick (you know, turn it to find a grip). If it does, turn it counter-clockwise to loosen it. Once done, you should be able to lower the anchor using the proper allen wrench. After lowering to your desired height, go back with the smallest wrench and turn clockwise until it stops (locking the anchor).

If your JEM is new (Edge Pro), it might not have the locking studs.

Yeah loosen your locking studs 1st. YES the 550's have locking studs by the way. The reissue is just that, a reissue. Faithful to the original with the exception of a stronger neck re-enforced with dual titanium trussrods. Good thing you asked before breaking it.

Re: RG550 bridge adjustment problem

thanks guys, I didn't think the 550 20th's had the locking studs.

I did make some small adjustments but stopped when it got too difficult to turn, I hope I haven't done any damage

Bingo
You're probably right fella, it's not like I am a newb to ibanez, I have had 3 jems and this is my 3rd RG, I am well aware of the locking studs. I am planning to buy a set for my DBK.

I do feel like a bit of a ****
