Question

RG550 rare colors?

I just saw an 1987 RG550 in Road Flair Red on *bay go for 995.00. Is the color that rare ? I have an 1987 in a neon orange that is alot cleaner that I got for 299.00. Does anyone know the available colors for the early RG's?? Thanks for your input

I've got a '94 RG550EG - emerald green. It has a matching headstock, black dot inlays, Lo-pro Edge trem and hardware in Cosmo Black. It was the first year of the AANJ for the RG series. It's stock except for TZ / AN pickups in the bridge and neck.

I'll try to take a few outdoors. Every pic of this guitar I've taken using a flash has turned out more blue than green. The actual color is metallic green over a blue undercoat. The catalog paint chips do not do this color justice at all.

I HAD that guitar , but mine was ALL stock, but from 1992 MIJ, I posted for sell here on Jemsite, and NOBODY wanted it, so I sold it to a pawn shop for a mere 250....

Re: RG550 rare colors?

I think $995 is a bit excessive, but I firmly believe the original RG's will become sought after guitars as people realize the players they are. They will escalate in value as they get higher on the "want-list".

Remember, a mid-70's Strat sold for $350 new and now those pathetic 3-bolts are going for over a grand. The RG's are MUCH better guitars.......

Re: RG550 rare colors?

The RG550 was first introduced in the 1988 catalog. The colors listed were black w/ rosewood fretboard, white, desert sun yellow and road flare red w/ maple fretboard. I know there were late 1987 models produced, but they were not in the '87 catalog.

I have the 1991 version but mine has the square heel and a green mirror pickguard.

Re: RG550 rare colors?

I took several nice shots of the 550 yesterday. Strangely, none of them accurately show the real color of this guitar. Some have too much blue and some look totally green. My photo site is full, so if someone wants to host a few pics, shoot me a PM and I'll email them. The flame pattern in the fretboard really stands out on this one.

I think yours is whats called "Lazer Blue"

Because, it looks remarkibly similar to my gorgeous RG550DXLB (LB = Lazer Blue, DX = fancy blue reflective pickguard, stock feature, NOT aftermarket)
