Rg550~Original or Reissue?

Hey guys I was just wondering, which guitar do you think is better, the rg550 original or the rg550 20th. I'm a HUGE shred fan ranging from Paul Gilbert to Marty Friedman and I'm looking at what guitar would be better speedwise and playability. I know the have to same 1987 neck(the new one a 5 piece) but from personal preference which one is better? Thanks

Original for sentimentality, reissue for technicality.

i say the original because the feeling is a little different.i like them a litle bit more.i think the old rg/jem/sig. are the best from 1985 till 1992.
i have one j custom from all my other guitars are older.and i have had a lot and kept the best.

Nothing to choose between them really. If I had to pick one it would probably be the original. You have more colour choice in the old range as well.

RG models were around before 1987. Although a different shape, they all had the Edge tremolo and were (still are) good guitars.

I didn't know they had the edges out before 87...did they perform the same? and if so, why doesn't anybody mention them...maybe silver color?

They weren't recessed, so you couldn't pull up a lot. Same tremolo. Thicker 22 fret neck, and more stratish in general might be the reason why many prefer the RG550. They are also harder to come by, and there were models without the Edge. So, the Edge wasn't "all over the place" until 1987.

I recently bought an '87 RG550 and I can tell you it beats the current high-end RG line hands down. It's the reason my trusty old RG2550E is up for sale now.

Haven't played a 20th so no comments or comparison there.
