RG570 Project Ideas?

Hey Everyone,

I just got a Blue RG570 that is a little rough. It has lots of paint chips and dings. Holes from a Roland GK2 pickup, and a Gibson style square input jack plate installed with a standard jack. It's a 1990 model with the original neck joint and Edge trem as well as a matching blue headstock. I'm looking for some cool ideas for customizing it. Probably a total refin and maybe a pickguard. If you have any suggestions for me I'm up for anything.

just out of curiosity, are the trem posts and inserts on the guitar rock solid?

Re: RG570 Project Ideas?

Yup, the posts and inserts are perfect and the trem has only minimal wear and no oxidation.

Re: RG570 Project Ideas?

ok, it's just because i got a 1999 rg570 recently and the trem posts are pretty wrecked and ovalled, lots of movement even when they're locked down.

if i was gonna revamp a 570, i'd strip it and put some green pickups in it. either that or finish it black and put some green pups in it.

Re: RG570 Project Ideas?

I say strip it with heat and burn it. You can check out my "Heat Stripped RG470" thread to see pics of the guitar after it was stripped.

It's a relatively easy process. Just get a heat gun ($40) and follow the tutorial at projectguitar.com. The whole process took about 4 hours total, and I did it in two two hour shifts.

Good luck and have fun with your project.

I have a couple fabrics I found that I plan on covering my 7620 with, one is a tye-dye, the other a series of Japanese characters on a red background.
I would go to a hobby shop and they have 1/4 yard hunk of fabric that are the perfect size for a guitar body for a dollar or two.
At that point, all you need to worry about is clear coat and buffing.

Re: RG570 Project Ideas?

Thanks for the great ideas guys. I'm going to get started on getting the guitar apart and hopefully the original paint off. Not really a fan of this Jewel Blue or whatever. Any more ideas would be great as well. I'll post some pics or let ya know what I go with once I get a little further along. This should be fun!!!
