RG750's made in 1989???? - RG750's made in 1989???

I purchased what I was told was a 1989 RG750. *According to a guitar source/price guide however, the 750's weren't made til 92 or so. *The serial number starts out with F9 meaning it was made in Japan in 89. *It's a black body/black pick guard, dual/single/dual IBZUSA pickups, Floyd Rose, binding on the headstock and neck with sharkfin inlays, a five-way switch, tone and volume knobs. *If anyone out there could help me discern whether or not this is a 750 or perhaps a 550LTD, I'd greatly appreciate it. *I can send detailed pics as well.
Thanks in advance!
Michel

RG750's made in 1989????

I have a 1990 Ibanez catalog with the RG750 in it. I also have an Ibanez AM100 that was made for only one model year (1984 - that is, it only appears in the 1984 catalog) but was actually manufactured in August of 1983. So your price guide was wrong (as they all too often are). Your guitar is almost certainly an RG750 - whether they were around for the '89 model year, I don't know, but it could be a 1990 model MADE in 1989 (they must have picked this up from the car manufacturers)... So the answer to your question is YES!

RG750's made in 1989????

The whole serial number is J924480. * I didn't think that the second number was anything more than a production figure...I had been playing guitar way back when in 88 and purchased my first electric, an RG340 or something along those lines and I remember there being a 750. *But with age, the memory fogs so I can't say for sure. *But thanks to all for the info!

RG750's made in 1989????

There's a gray area in dating where for years in the 80's they used the last # of the year then switched back to using the last 2 digits. It could be an 89' or a 92', but just waking up from a nap for the night shift I'm a little foggy right now  so I don't know which for sure.

RG750's made in 1989????

J924480 I'd first look at 1992. In 89 they probably didn't have the serial #s on the back of the headstock, if that's what you're talking about. I don't have the ibz catalogs handy to look up the 750... glen

RG750's made in 1989????

I'd call it an 89. They didn't start using the 2 didget year code on RG's untill 98 I think. I believe the 7XX's were made from 89-92. And it's definatly a 7XX if it has the IBZ USA F pickups.

RG750's made in 1989????

7xx's are from '88 - '92(with the 770-770DX till '93)... I have an '88 750, with *SN#883252 on the neck-plate..

When did they start making the LoPro Edge? Later 7xx models had them, so if it's a '92 it might have one.. I know mine has an Original Edge, and so would an '89..

Should be able to tell by the hardware color too, Cosmo black didn't come out untill '90, did it? If it's got regular black hardware it's definately an '89..

Hope this helps..

P.S. I've seen '87s with the SN# on the headstock, so it could still be an '89 even with that..

RG750's made in 1989????

The Lo Pro made it's apearance in 91', so if it's got it it's a 92', if not it's an 89'

RG750's made in 1989????

It has the regular black hardware and it's a regular licensed Floyd Rose, not the Lo-pro. *So I guess it's an 89. *What else should I know about the guitar? *I'm assuming it's one of their higher end models for that year? *Thanks to all who replied!

RG750's made in 1989????

In '89, the 700 models were Ibanez's top-o-the-line. They are excellent rides with top notch components. The RG750 is basically your RG550 with upgraded electronics, shark-tooth inlays and a bound neck/headstock.

Unfortunatly, these were the only difference and, IMO, led to the downfall of the model. Instead of offering these small details as options on the RG550, Ibanez decided to run with a whole new model. I don't have dealer pricing for that year, but I think it was almost double what the RG550s were going for.

In '91, I bought an RG560 w/case for $500. The RG760's were tagged at $900 (Memory is a bit cloudy).
