Re: RG770dx or jem?
RG770DX is BADASS.
I wouldn't say it plays any better than a JEM. Depends on what you like. The DX had a Wizard neck, though.

Re: RG770dx or jem?
i'd say save ur cash n go for a 770dx personally i had a S5xx series guitar that blew my JEM7VWH out of the water in terms of tone and playability, i dont think they're that much better than the prestige series

Re: RG770dx or jem?
Being a long-time RG player I'd also go with the DX. Especially the 1994 model with AANJ.

Re: RG770dx or jem?
AANJ ? O.O
i heard that the 1991 770dx is good...
eh i have trouble telling which are the old ones and which are the new ones...
i know the 1991 era 770dx had pickups the same color as the guitar...
then i saw some 770dx that are black while the guitar is blue... kinda confused

Re: RG770dx or jem?
Good ole RG770DXVM's were amazing guitars. I could play once and it was, you know, really great
By the way, it is important to know which guitars to be compared. If you compare 92 jem77bfp and rg770, i'd say "go for a jem" of course but if it is jem555, then i'd say "nevermind if it is called jem"

Re: RG770dx or jem?
I had to choose between a 777DY a 770VM and a 7PWH (all new, all priced equally, UV signed by SSV) when I purchased my first proper guitar, went for the DY.
it still rocks.
(though the VM or UVP would've been nice too...)
my main reasons for the DY over the VM:
-PaFs
-no binding
-pyramids
DY over UV
-maple
6 vs. 7

Difficult to choose
But great opportunity
I think i'd go for UV or DY

I *think* there was, but I'm not sure if the 770DX was even made in 1994, only thing is I've seen one with AANJ. Whether that was stock or not I'd like to know, or could it have been the 670DX? Whatever it was, it was Lazer Blue and very nice. My favourite is the Ruby Red one, though.

Re: RG770dx or jem?
There's a red one on the bay as of a couple of days ago - i always liked the looks of the red and blue ones. Even the purple one is pretty cool.
They definitely compare closely to the older Jems, but not as much to the newer ones.
It's really a question of dollars and cents. If you can afford a Jem, go for the Jem. If you want the next best thing, get the 770 and put Evo, Pafs or Breeds in it (or some combination of the above)
you really can't go wrong with either.

Re: RG770dx or jem?
hmm even if i got an rg770dx... and put in evos/breeds, it wouldn't have the 5 way switch right?
"Hands On Report: JEM vs. RG 5xx/7xx (non-Prestige) 6-strings" made the 700s sound like a joke compared to jems in terms of almost every aspect... -.-

Re: RG770dx or jem?
The RG770DX is far different than a JEM, Neck thickness & profile, pickups, bound neck to unbound, different frets.
The DX has a 5 way switch.
The JEM has much more to offer, yet much higher price tag that goes along with it.
