RGT42 opinions

The local music store has had one of those RGT42's for quite some time now and I have been thinking about buying it. My buddy down at the store seid he would let me have it for about $550 with case. What do you guys think of it? I feel it is a pretty decent guitar. It plays good.
Also I was thinking if I get it that I would like to basically turn it into a neck-thru Jem complete with a swirl job and maybe a chrome vine or something.
Has anyone ever had the back of the neck swirled to match?

btw, sorry this kind of turned into a Jem topic. It can be moved if need be.

I'm sure it'd be quite a challenge to do a neck-through instrument, because the entire instrument would have to be submerged. But i know Darren has swirled just about everything under the sun, so i'm sure he's up to it!

Cool. That's exactly what I was looking for. Just something kinda cheap to toy around with. Plus it's a neck-thru.

yeah, I don't fancy the idea of a Korean guitar, but that's just me.

I posted the other day about an AX120 I played that completely blew me away. It was a really great axe for the money. Sounded beautiful. I've seen the RGT42 before and it played awesome. I could hear the acoustic differences having the neck-thru construction and it all seemed very tight.

I wouldnt put down the RGT42 because its Korean, honestly I dont think that makes much of a difference anymore. What would turn me off the most is the damed TRS which I still agree is a piece of crap. But now n days its easy to have a Lo-Pro installed and I think its worth having the neck thru.

The only other thing I dont like is the finished neck. Oh wait...is it finished?? I remember seeing a neck thru Ibanez that just faded and turned into unfinished maple. That is awesome because I far perfer maple. Even if it has its own clear finish.

But hey for 550 I dont think anyone can argue that is a awesome deal and Im not surprised because thats what Ibanez is...Value. A great axe at that price I think.

When I complain "it's Korean", basically all I'm complaining about is the trem available. You're quite right, the quality of the Korean guitars are getting better and better,. not quite there yet, but it's the TRS type trems that keep me at arms length.

I'll never stock anything under Prestige for used inventory or new, so the AR2000 is the only hardtail I'll even deal with [besides a few jazz boxes]

*cough**cough*RG7620*cough*520QS*cough*that SA thing*cough*

IMO, nothing's perfect. I wouldn't pass on a Korean axe that I really like just because of its origin. hell, I play an LTD, and it's one of the sweetest guitars for the buck

i bought an RGT42 in january, and honestly, its the best 650(after tax) i've ever spent... i have done some upgrading to it now of course, the INF1 and INF2 just had to go, put some duncans in it... JB and TB4... and put an origional Edge trem on it, the big ol one not the lopro... then last night i was thinking... hmmm i'd get better tone if i could screw the pickups directly into the body instead of the traditional frame mount... so i figured out a way to do it, and it helped my tone SO much! great project ax in all honesty, plays great, and is great when u get rid of the LoTRS II
