Question

S470DXQM 2005 versus 2004?

I was just about to purchase a S470DXQM and I just saw at musician's friend where they are listing a NEW veriosn for 2005 that is about 40 bucks cheaper. http://www.***************.com/srs7/...se_pid/519985/

I dont care about the 40 bucks, but what changes, if any, were made for 2005, adn why is it 40 cheaper? I cannot seem to get any info on this.

Could someone please fill me in so I can make the purchase one way or the other. The 2004 are getting hard to find and if they are "better" in some way, I want to move on it.

Thanks in advance....

I saw some new 2005 modles wif just 2 humbuckers w/o the middle single coil.

That could be the reason?

Why not save up for a prestige? guitartrader is having a closeout at 900+.

Re: S470DXQM 2005 versus 2004?

Is there anyplace where I can see a picture of one of the NEW 2005 s470DXQMs in charcoal brown or similar finish? I see they are using alot of "weathered mahogany" finishes, which are very cool. I know what the current model looks like.

I like not having the middle pickup, since I was going to lower it to get it out of the way anyway. I hate the middle pickup, always have.

I am not going ot go nuts with an artist cause I am a strat man and have a ton of guitars. I just want one "hot rod" guitar and I am very interested in all the "zero" tremolo improvements as I am an old school floyd rose guy.

I've got a great looking '95 S470FM in teal I'm looking to sell. In excellent shape, 97% mint, plays great, feels great. I'm building a custom guitar right and need to unload one of mine. This one's on the chopping block as I can't keep them all. I have a Seymour Duncan (yeah, sacriliege to some in an Ibanez) in the bridge position and it screams, overall, a great guitar, if you're willing to consider flamed maple instead of quilted ... and a used guitar, but the price is better than new.

Bump this message to the top.

Any answers here? I still cannot get any answers, but they did NOT do away with the mid pickup. its still HSH. so why the $40 savings. this makes me nervous...

Re: S470DXQM 2005 versus 2004?

hmm, that's odd, because they are selling 2005 versions of the S470DXQM with the quilt tops and everything. So maybe MF has the wrong guitar listed. and without a pic, you can't tell what you're getting !!

I like the new model in terms of subtracting the middle pup, but that's about it. The S470DXQM is a much classier looking instrument IMHO.

So should I buy a "2005" S470DXQM or last year's S470DXQM ? The question is still up there... and it still doesn't answer the $40 price difference. Does anyone have the 2005 Ibanez catalog?

Re: S470DXQM 2005 versus 2004?

I just thought I would post an update. I bought an S470DXQM in charcoal brown from MATTS MUSIC, a sponsor of this site.

First off MATT is amazing, and put up wiht alot of questions and kept in touch with me while he was at NAMM. Just a bad-ass dude. If I buy anything again, I will call him first...

On to the guitar. It's amazing. I removed the trem-stop to make it full float, but it was set up ok. I will tweak to taste as i dial it in...

The stock pups are ok, but I will replace them at some point. It just plays so nice. the neck is awesome, and the looks are killer. I must say that I was disappointed with a lack of finish around the input jack (inside). It seems as if Ibamez should have plucked this one out of assembly adn refinished it. It's really kind of ugly, but I play guitars, not look at them, so I think I am keeping it.

The ZR trem is fantastic, adn once you stretch the strings, rock solid.

I am very happy with the guitar and it is everything I thoguht it would be, I just wish SOMEONE would have caught that finish problem at the input jack.

Now I have to wait until the guts of the sustainer shrink down. I would also like special push/pull and or button pots instead of those ugly little switches. ugly.
