I was fairly sure it just meant sabre, could be wrong though.

Re: "SA" meaning Strat Assassin???

Saber was the first name of what became the S-series (S is for Saber). SA is a derivative of the S-series. i thought it was S Artist or something like that.

Re: "SA" meaning Strat Assassin???

It was Saber. Ibanez had to change cause Ernie Ball complained it was too similar to their Sabre bass.

Guys...

Read the posts, please!!!

nuno's asking about the SA series NOT the S series. Unfortunately I can't help with the SA question either though

I think they were just answering with as much info as they know, which is pertinent to the OP's question IMHO (historically speaking) . The SA comes from the S series but not sure exactly what the "A" means. I'll check my Ibanez book when I get a chance and see if that says anything.

Re: "SA" meaning Strat Assassin???

I thought it was "Saber Arched". Because of the arched top? Just like RGA being RG Arched, as far as I know. I came across this on the site of a Dutch guitar store:

"The SA was originally designed for guitarists who were looking for a combination of the comfort and minimum weight of the S series with heavy mahogany tones but with a flat back"

Sounds right, just like RG stands for 'Real Guitar' Right guys? Right?

But seriously it sounds strange that they would name it like that.

The sabre & arched suggestion sounds logical. Maybe Sabre arched?

Unlikely I'm sure. I can't see any guitar manufacturer that obviously idolises the Strat taking a cheap shot like that.

the S is already an arched top. the SA is just a flat-back S-series. well, i don't know but i'm pretty sure that SA isn't for Strat Assassin, it's just silly.

If this was the 80's someone would think it stood for Satan's Axe or something ridiculous like that.
