Saddle Issue (Please Help)

Ok I recently picked up an Ibanez with an Edge trem. Everything works fine and I have no issue balancing and setting up the trem. Trem angle is flush to the body, etc.

Here's my problem. When I tune my high E up to pitch it slips out of the locking saddle. None of the other strings slip out of the locking saddle but because the high E is the thinnest one it just slips right out. The string doesn't break and I have tightened it so that the locking saddle is pushed up correctly. I've tightened it even more than I probably should so I know that it's not just a case of "It's not tight enough."

I've googled but I didn't come up with any results of anyone else having this issue. Any ideas? I'm honestly tempted to try and put the string UNDER the saddle so that it can't slip out but this is one of those things that just "should work" so please tell me that I'm missing something blatantly obvious here.

btw, this is my first real double locking / floating trem system.

ty in advance

check the saddle block. It may be "grooved" and letting the string slide out.

Yeah that could be it. I'll pull it and see if there is a groove. Even if I don't see one I'll turn it around and see if it makes a difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but the high E locking saddle should function just like the others right? Poke the string down in front of the locking saddle and then lock the saddle flush by turning the adjuster "tight but not crazy cranked down tight".

If you're able to lock and tune the other five strings, then I'm sure you have the technique down. All I can think of is replacing the lock block, but someone with more experience may known of something else that might be the problem.

It's a groove in the block as already said. You can grind the face flush but it's not exactly easy. Most of the time one of the other blocks won't be as grooved and you can just swap it, or replace with new.

Couldn't you just flip it around as well?

Blocks go in the with the lock screw hole on the bottom side and toward the lock screw.

Re: Saddle Issue (Please Help)

UPDATE:

I yanked the saddle and sure enough it had a nice trench in it. I swapped it for the saddle that was on the A string since the A is thick and didn't wear the same. First try I lock the high E and it stays! Miracle of miracles.

ty all for your help...

now I just need to set the intonation but that's another issue all together... lol
