Sanding the neck

Hi all,
I have a question about sanding the back of the neck. After sanding the lacquer away, is there anyway I can do to prevent leaving stains on the neck after playing? I notice that with sweaty palms, it tends to leave black stains that form 2 black lines on the necks which cannot be gotten rid of. Can i apply Compound wax or stuff like that to protect the wood against the stain or something?

Re: Sanding the neck

Put some tung oil on it.. it will give it some protection but still feel like bare wood.

not if you can read the directions on the back of the container.
pretty simple man.. just make you have everything you need before you start.. all the right grit papers... some 0000 steel wool, a terrycloth towel to apply the tung oil, and then follow the instructions. You can also search around the forum and web.. I know I have searched for and found some other users that have done this in the past and showed their work with pics.

Re: Sanding the neck

a product called danish oil... get the low gloss version. danish oil actually penetrates the wood and hardens inside the wood as opposed to hardening on top of the wood as tung oil does. feels like wood but is very well protected.

In my opinion, Birchwood Casey Tru Oil and Gunstock Wax is the best for getting that smooth, bare feeling while leaving the neck protected against moisture (which tung oil doesn't as much). It's what Ernie Ball uses on their products, and it's great.

Re: Sanding the neck

I couldnt find any Tung oil, But I found colron's Danish Oil, which supposedly is made from 100% Tung oil and some other resins (which i presume dries it faster). Just applied the second coat. Currently, so far so good. Will take pics and upload for you guys to see when i am done.
