sell/keep my rg 470s?

I have 2 rg470s that have served me pretty well gigging. I use the whammy bar extensively and experience lack of trem tunining stability.

So, I researched this forum (thank you to all) and other sources extensively; I considered 1570s, 2570s, and 8570s, and so far, I've bought on 570. I've never heard an A/B test between DiMarzio pups, and until I do that, and until I'm convinced that DiMarzio fits me, I have no problem with stock pups.

I'm looking to get another *570, as I like having a backup axe.

The question is whether I keep my 470s. One is a beautiful purple metallic? flake? version -- nice eye candy on my wall. I regret selling my Aria ProII, my first decent electric, for sentimental reasons. I've sold a frankestrat because it had a Kahler trem, and didn't fit me anymore, and I don't regret selling it. I've sold a Kramer Voyager, because it was out of balance and didn't fit well on tight stages playing swamp pop music.

My thinking is that, since I'm essentially upgrading to very similar eye candy, and because I'll have more than enough *70s, I might as well unload my 470s to make room -- space wise and for reasons of trying to use a little restraint financially. I love my wall of toys, and I play daily, usually acoustic, but I'm trying not to be ridiculous:

2 RG470s
Kramer Pacer
Ibanez hollowbody *75
Ibanez ??? 495 bass
Taylor 814 LE (actually a 414 Fall Limited with 814 materials and no cosmetic frills)
Taylor nylon string acoustic/electric guitar
Warwick Alien acoustic/electric bass
Ibanez $400 acoustic/electric
Fanin acoutic $100 (my first guitar, from 25 years ago)
Sigma $250 nylon string acoustic

Thoughts, please?
Jerry

Don't sell it just to sell it. If you don't play her anymore and she just sits, might as well get a rid of her.

Believe me I know how hard it is to sell an axe you're not sure of (ask Rich ) but unless you are hurting for money, the wife is making you or don't play her anymore, keep it.

I reckon you should keep you favourite of the two RG470s and upgrade the trem. Much cheaper than buying a whole new guitar.

Go get yourself a Gotoh licenced Floyd Rose, it comes with locking studs and get it installed. The Gotohs are awesome trems, I had one in my RG470 for some time, even without the locking studs it was so much better than the LO-TRS II.

Then sell your other one if you want, or do the same thing to it!

Good idea, thanks. I also realize I could get a trem-no and give myself an option for alternate tunings.

Other thoughts?

Better yet: get yourself a OFR Pro! I did it and I don't regret it a bit!
The RG-470s are great axes and they deserve the upgrades.

Re: sell/keep my rg 470s?

"what is the "swamp pop" musical genre?"

It is a fascinating genre, and the wikipedia article does a pretty good job of summing it up. I'll give you a list of typical set lists of swamp pop bands today:

Matilda -Cookie and the cupcakes
Don't let the green grass fool you - Wilson pickett
If you don't want me to (the freeze) - Ronnie milsap
I got loaded ?
Lord, I need somebody now - Van broussard
Fooled around and fell in love - Elvin bishop
Domino - Van morrison
Wild nights - Van morrison
Shama lama lama ding dong -?
Tell it like it is - ?
Tell me goodbye ?
All these things ?

Of course, the lines can be blurry between genres, and different folks will give different answers. And swamp pop bands adopt other and modern songs. But what's funny is most of the bands play essentially the same set list.

Do the OFR Pros come with locking studs? That's where I consider the Gotoh to be at an advantage, also when it comes to price, and the profile of the trem, arm holder, etc.
