Sending my RG770 to be PLEK'ed

I plan on sending my RG770 to have a Plek treatment done by Mr. Joe Glaser of Nashville. Has anyone had their Ibanez (or any other guitar) PLEK'ed? If so, how did it feel afterwards?

I just picked up my 57 RI Les Paul last night, it came Plek'd from the factory, but I havent had a chance to really play it yet and compare it to a non plek'd guitar.

I'd never heard of PLEK before this thread. Looks like a cool use of technology, but I wonder exactly how much of a difference it makes over a competently done luthier setup. I'd love to hear some reviews.

Re: Sending my RG770 to be PLEK'ed

I remember speaking to a guy on another forum a while back (I completely forgot which forum but if I remember I'll post the thread link up). He was really impressed and said his PLEK'd guitar played amazingly well, was able to use a seriously low action and had no buzz at all. It seems impressive, I'd love to get it done.

Waylay -- how much is it costing to get the PLEK job done?

I was amazed! This computerized machine analizes and displays a digital image of your neck and the results are amazing. You have a choice of super low action ,low, medium, high and extra high or can do custom choices, whatever string action you prefer. This devise engineered in Germany is out of this world.I took 2 guitars a 1987 American Standard and a Pro artist to be put on the plek. This thing analyzes the diameter of strings you use and levels the frets according to what radius your fretboard is and maximizes the perfect height of your frets and each fret is the same height within 0.0004 ten thousandth of a inch.Tells the tech or user the perfect setting adjustment for the truss rod and last but not least displayes saddle adjustments. What a set up.

He quoted me $129 for the actual PLEK treatment, but he said that they would probably have to do some nut touch up for $25 (I didn't tell him that it was a locking nut, so I don't know if that will have an effect) and then a setup for $30-$50.

Around $200 I guess for the whole deal.

How does it feel?

Also, to anyone, what does the PLEK "Super Low" Action setup specify in terms of height?

The action can be set very low - mine is just over 1mm at the last fret with a tiny bit of neck relief. No fret buzz at all and no choking on bends.

Re: Sending my RG770 to be PLEK'ed

A Plek is no magical mystery machine, it's a fret level, period. It will also tell any dumb lazy tech what settings to use when resetting the guitar so he doesn't have to think for himself. It's no more accurate than a good tech and I believe the metal finishing/polishing is still dependent on whoever is doing the job.

Well, after reading the FAQ on the site, I'm mighty impressed. I'd like to try it.
