Shark tooth inlays... - ... what's your opinion ?

G'day all,

I'm looking for an Ibanez Radius, and one has come up for sale here in Australia. It looks like the '91 limited editon with the sharktooth inlays and H-S-H config. It's selling for around $350 USA.

What do you think about the sharktooth inlays ?. I used to hate them but the more I look at this pic the more I feel it growing on me.

If, after a while, *I couldn't stand the shark tooth inlays with fretboard binding, what would be my chances of swaping it online for one with just dot's ? Do people swap out necks here on the Jemsite, or is that a no-no sort of thing to do to a guitar ?

Tony

I dunno, I think it looks kinda cool. *I mean, you could do one of two things with it. *Shred (the obvious choice) or play something very a-typical of an 80's style shred guitar, just to see peoples reactions. *I can't remember who it was, but someone mentioned wanting to down-tune an FP or SK or DY, any really pretty looking guitar, just to see peoples reactions of hearing this heavy agressive music coming from something that's pink or covered in flowers.

I agree with Two Hands, the shark tooth inlay gets a bad rap because it's associated with the '80s thing. Personally, I like it alot because to me, the dot thing gets boring to look at!

That's an LTD. *A radius with a wizard neck (and H-S-H!). *More important than the inlays is, would you prefer the wizard profile, or the fatter ultra profile more common on the radius model?

I have an ultra from a radius I'm fitting with a Carvin neck. *If you decide to go this way, I'd swap (dots, no binding) or sell outright.

I'd prefer a fat one than a thin one any day. ; )

I'm very interested in buying a Radius Ultra neck if you want to sell it.

I wonder if they have the same neck pocket depth on the 92 and the earlier models ?.

Just as an info thing (6828 & *are e-mailing on the sell/trade issue):

The neck pocket is the same as all other '88 & later Radiuses (and all JS models I've seen, even new ones). *The only one I've ever seen diferent is my '87 - I suspect they didn't have it quite right yet, as that was the first model year.

It's a standard fender 4 bolt pattern. *non-aanj Wizard, Ultra, Warmoth, Carvin... they all fit.

Too bad they didn't use the binding with the oval abalone from the S540FM series. *That woulda been mondo classy.
