sk 1987 rg550???

Anyone know if shocking pink was a color option for the rg550 in 1987???

nope... white ,black with maple fingerboard and black with rosewood fingerboard,road flair red ,and desert yellow thats it in 87

Maybe not in 1987 but check the link below. Colour options seem to state one as PN (unknown) for my money that's gotta be a pink 550 hasn't it. I just wish they did the category in individual years.

Im almost certain thats an RFR 550, Photography back in the 80's didn't capture neon well more to the point offset printers couldn't print neon in photos, because printing must be in CMYK and it just doesn't do Neon well... It just looks pink, but its not...

that gilbert guitar is DEFINITELY rfr - and it was available in 1987 as stated above .
i know for a fact because when i brought my first RG - a DSY leftie in 1987 - the shops were full of em in both colours .
and in the right light they did look pink ....

(sorry for the semi-old thread bump)

PN is Purple Neon (I updated the page, also added the individual years, still based on catalogs, so no real production facts or numbers here). As for the pink RG550, the closest one (and my guess) is still Road Flare Red and I've never found clues for a SK RG550. As you can see there has been a succession of red-ish colors with RF, FA and finally CA and the RF is the only one close to (or actually equals) pink.

don't forget the pastel colors...the ones with the white pickguard a light blue, which i got, and the salmon colored one..both came out in 87.

I think he's talking about Violet Pearl - those had the white guards on them. The 88 cat (generally 87 models) only shows VP for the 560s, but I've personally had at least 4 of those in 550s, all of which had 1987 serial numbers, I believe. That being said, I think it's pretty much been shown that the catalogs are not the end all, be all for colors.

go to the topic: subtle differences in the 550-560 in this section "other ibanez guitars" there you will see a pic of my guitars. The one in the middle is an 1987 550, all original..it's not VP color cause thats the color of those two 560's...
