Re: Sss Rg550

I just pulled my SSS pickguard and pups out of my 550 and reinstalled the original setup.. Wayyyyy too little sustain no matter how I tweaked it with the HS3 and YJM..

Oh well,, it seemed like a good idea at the time

One of the '86 Roadstar deluxes with an edge trem came with 3 singles. It was pretty sweet. Check the Ibanezrules.com archive.

Both HS3 & YJM have very low output, even lower than some true SCs, you need an OD pedal to make them sing otherwise they can be "blah!"

Re: Sss Rg550

Hey guys,

Man, sorry to hear you don't like it. I have the Virtual Vintage 2.2s in there and it really is nice. I have to say that these are better than I expected.

Here are a couple pics finally. I will end up either refinishing it natural/tung oil or I may put an old Jem body on it instead.

BTW, if you're interested in selling the pink one shoot me a PM. I have another guy that wants an SSS after playing mine.

Peace. -= Eric

Yes, I'm well aware of the characteristics of the YJM & HS3 pickups.. This was beyond acceptable tho so I reinstalled the original pickguard and pups..

Sorry, I didn't take pics while the SSS pickguard was on.. It was identical to the picture you see above of my pink 550 tho.. Just with Black SCs and the bridge pup on an angle.

ecalcagnino, I'm not sure I want to part with the pink 550, It plays real well and sounds good now.. It is kinda of a duplicate of the 1550 so i may change my mind.. I will part with the black SSS pickguard, HS3 and YJM if you are interested.. Pickguard is Bl/Wh/Bl

Re: Sss Rg550

Yeah, that looks awesome! I have always wanted to do that to an RG, especially on an RG550. Strats are my favourite guitars by far, and thats why I have always wanted to do it to an Ibanez. If I did it, I would probably go with hotrails of some sort in every position.

Very cool though!

Axeslinger, I'll pass on the pups and the guard for now, thanks for the offer, but let me know about that 550. I would consider the pups/guard with the guitar. Thanks!

Thank you all, too. I gotta say that I do love it. I am not a Fender guy to say the least so this is a great way to get those familiar tones without sacrificing the feel of the guitar. Great addition to the studio!
