subtle differences 550-560

hey guys..i picked up an 89 rg560 awhile back and noticed that between that one and my 89 rg550,the volume knob is closer to the bridge pickup by 3/8 on the 560 (5/8 )than the 550(1").both guitars (i thought)were identical.other than the pup config, pup types and color.the 560 has emgs and they are all active, the 550 has a duncan,a tz and the stock single in the middle.
this is kind of perplexing.anyone have an idea as to why this is?there are also subtle length differences from the vol to the tone and to the 5way

Re: subtle differences 550-560

The position of the volume knob was changed between the 89 and 90 catalogs, so probably your 560 is early 89 and 570 is late 89?
sry 550: pickguard could have been changed of course.

Re: subtle differences 550-560

Year of model won't make the difference.
The difference is in the pick guard.
If you were to A/B the 560 & 570, you'd find the control knobs in the same place.

except for the 87 560, which has the volume knob closer to the pick up

Re: subtle differences 550-560

look at the two light blue ones...the one next to the 550 is a 1987...the one on the far left is a 1989..the knobs are different..it's this way for all 87 560's...changed in 89....

the black one is also an 87..

Re: subtle differences 550-560

I have an almost identical 550 as the one in the middle (same pickguard and everything) although the stock pickups are the V1-S1-V2.

What year is that? Mines a 91 but I haven't seen another with the gold mirror pickguard. Had it since 94 or so...

it's an 87 model 550...Does yours have a black headstock too? if so that's a new one on me if it's from 91..by that time they all (I think) had matching headstocks.

in 94, the only RGs listed with the wizard neck was the RG550 and RG550LTD..for all the rest of the RG line it was the wizard II.

Oh, I couldn't tell that your headstock was black, mine matches the body. I just don't recall seeing another one with the gold mirror pickguard.
