I've never got the "made in the USA" thing. If you've got the J-custom team making brilliant guitars, do you really imagine American luthiers could do a better job, simply because the guitar was built in a different geographic location or they were born in a different country?

Re: Summer NAMM 2009

Well, I wasn't suggesting that Made in the USA guitars replace MIJ; I was saying they should replace MIK. And Ibanez has been really screwed by the exchange rate. No matter how well Japan builds them, they're still going to get more expensive.
And yes, I would put American workers up against anyone in the world. Americans in North Carolina built my 1996 Toyota which has 225,000 miles on it and still runs well. I think Americans can build a good RG if the operation is run like Toyota and not like, say, General Motors.
Getting back on topic, when do you think we'll start seeing any leaks? I know they only release a few new guitars over the summer. I'm anxious to see what mid-year additions are.

I think because the jem7eafx will only get a few buyers (Mainly Paul Gilbert) I won't be surprised to see a new jem in the next year, a wild-erer one.

Sorry Bro, I got the wrong idea from your post!!!

I was thinking you were saying the Japanese guitars should move down a rung to occupy Korea's old slot then USA would be cream of the crop if you see my meaning.

And yeah, I agree that the exchange rates are playing havoc with the international guitar market at the moment

Manufactures can build guitars where ever they want, but I would like to see better quality parts used on the Korean, Indonesian, and Chinese guitars.

Jack, what happened with the 401?

Re: Summer NAMM 2009

i'd expect the quality is down to turn around time, the japanese are no doubt given more time to make them perfect where as korea maybe rushed. I wouldnt put it down to which country are better but down to targets and training needed. E.g. a Korean worker would be shown what he needs to know to get it to the MIK standard in a certain time frame, where as MIJ people will have higher training and more time allowance.

It's almost the middle of June. Doesn't anyone have any info? I want to buy another guitar, but I will kick myself if Ibanez comes out with something really cool this summer and I have already spent my $$$ LOL.

Re: Summer NAMM 2009

Summer NAMM is THIS week. Starts wednesday June 18? I believe.
Nashville Tn USA.
Planning to go but tough to get in.
Not open to the general public.
Gotta have a business license (ANY type I suppose?) and either
1. be invited by someone already on the list or
2. have a minimum 2 receipts showing you are presently
selling guitar stuff.
Oughta be like a damn car show!!
I'm trying to get someone interested in a new whammy bar I built
and figure that would be the perfect place to hit several manufacturers at once.
And it's a 3 hour drive from home. (Memphis)
1 company has already seen it and loved it but we didn't discuss $$$.
Now have a seriously updated model - cheaper to manufacture
and far more durable- and I am hoping to meet the same guys there.
I'll post back if I make it in.
Not even sure if you can take a camera with all the stipulations
to just getting in the door...

June 19th is a Friday. NAMM is in July. Not this week, a month from now.

Re: Summer NAMM 2009

Holy Crap.
You're right.
It IS July.

That's both good and bad news for me.
Took this week off from work to BE there.
No biggie - I don't like work anyway.
And more vacation available.

On the other hand - it gives me an extra month
to get the entry paperwork in place.
Can't believe I missed that.

Must have been looking at 2010.
Been so obsessed with building and refining this thing...
