Test played 2 neck throughs

yo- tried out the RG and thick-S style neck throughs. neither was a Prestige model, but the RG was like (US) $700. the neck clearly runs the entire body length in the RG. yet-- i didn't like the glossy, painted necks whatsoever. although the smooth neck heel was okay, there was way too much friction because of the thick urethane coat.

i'll note also that i plugged neither in, just test played 'em unplugged. the psuedo S style had a lot of resonance, and the RG was just an RG. the S style had the strings through its thick body and the RG had one of those brand new "string-ball-ok" whammy bars.

I never liked painted necks either thats why i hate most jacksons. Im bad about stripping off even the lightest coat of satin finishes

I like a nice satin finish. But any gloss can be roughed up to approximate that. Raw is best, but also gets dirty, wet, etc, so for me satin is a good compromise. I wouldn't let it keep me from buying an axe that is otherwise perfect for me.
