The Destroyer is back home

After years of searching for a mint/pristine Destroyer I have finally found one. These things are not that common here in the UK but I found a DT420 NOS, as new and untouched. The thing was personally imported (as they never made it to Europe) by a music shop owner then stored away for 7 years.

This thing is an absolute beauty and has everything I was looking for in a DT. I sold my old one in the mid 90's and forever regretted it, it feels like meeting up with an old flame.

My initial comments are that the build is absolutely flawless (you'd expect that from Fujigen) and it sounds much better than I expected. Quite a few people have slatted the QM humbuckers but they are absolutely fine in this guitar. I was also very surprised by the excellent sustain, light weight and awesome playability, the neck shape and finish are so great I cannot put this thing down or stop playing maiden-esque riffs. I won't fall in the trap and tell you it is miles better than an Explorer, it just the one for me.

Hail the destroyer! Simply one of the greatest designs to come from Ibanez and a proper rock guitar with danglies. Do us a favour good people from Ibanez and make another batch in Fujigen.

Mine is a twin of your #1 (DT420-BP as stated on the ID tag)

What's your opinion about these and the pickups? I guess if you have 2 you must like them...As I said above I sold my original and really missed it, sometimes you need a proper rock guitar.

The stock pickups are surprisingly rockin'. I really didn't mean to buy 2 but I had 2 auctions going and ended up winning both.

love 'em. There's a 1982 Destroyer 2 on the bay that I'd love to get my hands on. Set neck, flamed cherry sunburst, some battlescars... beautiful. If only I could afford a new toy.

Great shape and finish if you find the explorer too plain, and they play amazing too - unlimited access to the top fret and superb neck combine to make your metal runs really easy. The output is high enough to get some Metallica tones (Wherever I may roam...) but still allows you to use the middle position for dead clean arpeggios. Soloing is very rewarding too.

Love it.

Try them if you can as they go for really low prices on e-bay, I will try to get my hands on a DT200 in candy apple red and hotrod it to death (cream super distortion in Bridge and covered paf in neck, new pots + capacitors, upgrade the hardware...) as I would like to have a mahogany DT.
