The elusive 540 PII ... crave.

I searched the jemsite archives and read up on the PII. Needless to say, I want one very badly, because IMO it is the coolest guitar Hoshino has ever made. I am only interested in the 24 fret non pickguard version, preferably in an H-S config and I'd be willing to dump about $400-$500 bucks on one. Color is not important because it's going to be stripped bare and left natural.

How difficult are these to come by? I can't find any right now, and the google hits are quite sparse for that model number. Were the 24 fret non pickguard models sold only in Japan? Were the PII's only made between 1989 - 1991? Are they all going to have the old school straight bolt on neck joints? Does anyone know of a guy making PII bodies and reselling them? Thanks.

Whoever this guy is, he rules for having snagged this:

The paint job I am not cool with, but that is the EXACT pii I want. 24 fret, hum/sing, 1 volume knob. If any of you see one, anywhere, please notify me immediately because I have the coin ready and will buy instantly. Thanks.

You might have some luck finding a 22 fret version, but finding a 24 fret Pll is near impossible. You can pick a 22 fret version up from $300-$600 depending. I have been looking for one for about 2 months now with no luck.

Good luck!

Hey dude... Your name and Nuno's came up quite a bit from the P2 searching I did. You said you traded a guy a Les Paul for TWO of em? Do you have pics of your current P2's? I am completely and totally hellbent on scoring a 24fret h/s non pickguard peetoo and I WILL succeed. I would have traded my Jem7VWH I just sold straight up for one. =)

Lemme know if you have pics of yours, or if you want to sell one? The P2 is the most wicked f'king. I love them, have since 1988. Peace.

The 24 fret version was not only available in Japan, I bought mine from Steve's Music Store (Ibanez dealer) in Ottawa in 1990. Mine is the black HH one with the pickguard. These guitars really do rock! The F3 is amazing! I used to play it through a DS-1 and then through a big bass amp. I tell you, it sounded MEAN!

Hey Nuno.... Yes I saw your yellow PeeToo. Very nice. Here is another one that I came across:

http://members.cox.net/ampage/P2/540.jpg

This one had the pups changed out, and also this most likely has the bs "Custom Made" inlay at fret 21? At least, I think that is what it says. I don't like that color at all, but that body shape is the freakin' BOMB. PeeToo, sexiest axe Ibanez has ever made.

Consequently, I will offer anyone here a $50 "reward" via paypal if they can locate a 24fret, h/s, non pickguard PeeToo for me, if I buy it. Go minions... GO! =)

Yup. I found his ad on HC... An ad he placed back on 8/13/2002, so I was almost not even going to ask about it, assuming it was gone gone gone, and of course it was. I would not have bought that one because of the neck, though. I'm going to hold out for a 24fret, hopefully one without that ridiculous "Custom Made" jibber jabber inlay which I think looks terrible. $50 offer still wide open to anyone who can find a PII for me in the config that I want.

BTW, Nuno... ever consider modding your peetoo and moving that 3 way toggle to a more logical position? I constantly flick between bridge and neck pup while I am playing and that toggle location is just low low low.

I can't speak for nuno, but in my opinion I think the pickup selector switch is in the perfect spot. I've been using my 540PII a lot lately and the switch feels most comfortable were it is.

You are the proud owner of a P2? Nice work, son. Pics of yours? If you dont have pics, lemme know the details please (pup config, # of frets, yada) and where you bought it. Thanks. As for the location of the toggle selector, perhaps you have grown accustomed to it, but I am used to it being slightly above and to the right of my picking hand for quick pup changes during leadwork.

Hell... they could have put the toggle switch on the bottom inside of the trem cavity, and the volume knob on the headstock and it would still be one of the raddest guits out there... even tho it's a Nez.

well,
many of my friends who played my PII say that the switch is a bit tricky to deal with, but i dont care much, cause, since i dont play in a band or so, i just pull the babe out of her case and i pass hours contemplating her! HOW LOVELY! HOW SEXY!
we gotta thank Rich 'God' Lasner for creating it!

PlayThickStrings, here's a pic of my 540PII. 22 frets, hum/hum...
Pic
I originally bought it off ebay about 2 years ago then I traded it in at the local shop on a Brian Moore DC-1. One of my buddies that worked at the store ended up with it. I was at his house one day after I had totally forgotten about the 540PII. I saw it sitting in the corner and instantly fell back in love with it and bought it back sortly afterwards. Now it's going to be my next re-finishing project.
Again on the selector switch, I think the main reason I got use to it was because I use to have a Hamer Californian Custom and a Hamer Diablo and the have the same selctor switch location.
