The official 'I might be getting an AANJ Radius' Thread

Hi there,
I have rare the chance to get a '93 AANJ R470. Lo-Pro Edge, V Pickups, ultra neck. While I can't really let this opportunity go, the problem is: I've never seen a guitar in worse condition. Hardware is rusty, and the whole body is covered with stickers, dust and that green stuff produced by too much guitar playing . Plus, I'm quite short on money. Should I do it?? How much would YOU spend on a guitar like that??

The reason why I'm not posting this in the Resellers Talk Forum is, I plan to keep you updated on the guitar deal here. Feel free to move it!!

Is the neck in good condition (ie, no nicks, or at least a neck that feels nice and you are happy with), if it is then all the rest can be worked on and restored. If you plan on getting it and want to put some time into it, you can upgrade the parts and replace them slowly and then even get the body refinished eventually. Look upon it as a project. Each time one bit gets fixed, it'll look better and better.

If it's cheap go for it, and then talk him down. As long is still plays well now, upgrading it can only make it better

Hmm, that's sort of interesting. A 1993 R470 with a LoPro and an AANJ? Were those sold in the Euro market only? I see in the US 1993 catalog (Rich's Ibanez Rules site), that the only AANJ Radius sold over here were the RV470 and the R540LTD. And to make it odder, it looks like the R540LTD had a Wizard neck, not an ultra like the earlier Radius (radii?). I just got an RV470 and it has a vintage-style trem, so that must not be what you're looking at. Hey, if you don't go for it, let me know. I might be interested.

An afterthought: is it possible that you're looking at a 1993 RV470 that someone dropped a LoPro in (got rid of the "V" in RV)? I'm wondering because the 93 RV470's had the V pickups in them. If the color is either tobacco burst or purple burst, that might be a possibility. If not, does it have the sharkfin inlays like on an LTD?'

No, it was a euro only model. I have it in my 1993 euro catalogue (page 21), including the specs. Available in Jewel Blue, Black, and another color I forgot , I think it was red. The only other available model in that catalogue is the R355GF, which seems to be similar to your RV.
Oh and it has plain dot inlays. The R540LTD wasn't available here. So I'm sure the model I'm talking about exists, and I'm sure that is the one.

Did I already mention we need the euro catalogues up on the net??

I'd be happy to host if somebody scans, or happy to scan if somebody sendsw, but it would be pointless if it's only a couple years, all or nothing

Finally: Status Update!!!

Well, what happened so far: I didn't buy the axe I mentioned in the first deal, the condition was too critical, at least for me. I also let go an opportunity to get one on ebay, my computer crashed when I was going to bid, so I said myself "aah f## it, I don't really need it anyway". Well, after months of waiting I discovered another auction.. kept my mouth shut and didn't tell anybody.. and gathered all my energies to bid 5 seconds before end. No more comments so far. Just take a look at 2503340298 on 'that auction page' and see how the word 'steal' has gotten a whole new meaning!!

Well, I'm now out of town till friday, so I hope to see some congratulations in this thread when I come back, lol

Life is good!!

Good deal man! What kinda R-Series is this anyway? I mean for 166 € it's a steal.

Congrats

My thinking is, if a body is in bad enough condition to warrant a refin, you can do your own pseudo-AANJ, so it's worth no price premium anyway. Of course, if the price is right go for it. I understand Radius addiction. I just got another one. A '91 with LoPro and that blueburst in awesome shape. WOOHOO!

Jester if you know anyone selling a Radius let me know. Right now I prefer one with a locking tremolo. Thx

I only have two now, so I'm not selling. Gotta thin out the collection of Pacificas first. If & when I do though, you'll be among the first to know. ;-)

It arrived!! You gotta imagine me opening the case and then just sitting there with a fat grin on my face
That guitar is amazing. And, apart from a few small finish dings it's like new. Ohh I love that body shape. I love the Ultra neck. I love.. everything on it. A bit of fretboard cleaning and trem setup and my new beast will SCREAM. And all that, for half of the price of an rg270. Dudes... ebay rules.
If you want pics, I could try to get a digicam for a few days.

Oh, and Scott74, the other Radius is long gone, but I'll keep my eyes open for ya
