The rare and dangerous RG-565 Prototype

I just got this today. A pristine RG 565 proto!! Believe it or not,I bought it from the widow of ex Jerry Lee Lewis guitarist Joel Schumacher. I might be buying another Ibby shredder from her too......funny,shredderiffic Ibbys aren't exactly what I'd expect to find in his collection, but they're there. This bad boy here is in perfect shape.....aside from the nasty, ancient strings. I'll take care of that tomorrow though. I plugged her in just now...it sounds like the bridge pup is an EVO. Sorry for the slightly bland pics, the genius driving the UPS truck didn't get here until after 6pm......I'll take some nice sunlight pics tomorrow....weather permitting.

Sweet!

I hope nobody tells you it was in general production between that year and the other!

Congrats!

Damn, I wish they would remake the RG565. Seems more popular now than it ever was.

There are still no H-S pickup guitars in the line-up. That sucks.

There have been quite a few of these floating about.... It would seem a few too many for them all to be protytypes

Definately nice guitars !!!

They are not Proto's, they are just known by that name because nobody knows what else to call them!

Very nice!!! However, I'm not too hot on the pup/knob color combination.

Re: The rare and dangerous RG-565 Prototype

I LOVE this guitar. I've seen a few in this color, a red one or two, and a black one if i'm remembering correctly. Awesome (and weird, considering where you found her) score!

I don't think these guitars are necessarily protos, but I think were "spot-production" pieces to test the viability of certain models in certain markets. either way, a rare bird and you're quite the lucky fella!

Me neither, it's a bit "Toys 'R' Us".

Easily changed, though. I'd go with black.

Re: The rare and dangerous RG-565 Prototype

simply superb. i must admit i'm into toys R us looking guitars, and the 565 is my fave RG ever (if not my fave guitar ever, in general, along with the Power sisters).

anyway, it's surprising that people like Joel Schumacher ever got any consideration for those kind of toy-ish "chinese piece of junk" (how they're supposed to call them).
