The RG2020x? - anyone have one? if so let me know the scoop

Hello everyone

I'm thinking of picking up one of these guys for testing stuff out and modding the hell out of

Does anyone have any experience with them? does the neck have a volute?
what kind of frets are on it? similar to the 3120?

I'm really looking for a 3120 but I do want the double edge.

please let me know, and if you ahve any pics post links to them or email them to me please

Thanks

(that was almost too easy)

Yes- same frets as the 3120.
Yes- the neck does have the volute.

The RG2020x?

Well I already have looked there 1 month ago, one week ago and roughly 11 hours ago, Still really not that much information.

There are lots of variations within the "Jumbo" fret identification.

Hence the asking of the questions in the forum

Thanks Kev

I've played a few, but cannot recall specific fret differences. *An important consideration between the two are the necks...the 2020x has a much fatter neck profile than the 3102 (Wizard). *This may be good or bad for you.

Fretwire: *the equivalent to Dunlop 6105 (It's that funny SBB number that I can't remember how to decipher). *
It's the same fretwire that they put on the 3120, and most other high-end RG's.

The RG2020x?

Nice guitar! I have one that has certainly had the living cr@p modded out of it. (Mine's been swirled and fitted with new pickups & electronics.) Tonally, it's a little less in your face than the 3120 (probably due to the lack of maple top). The neck profile is awesome--it's somewhere between the J-Custom neck profile and the USA Custom profile (Ultra?). Plays like butta!

Pickup-wise mine has a Air Norton & a Steve's Special, but if you're going for more of the 3120 sound you could always do the PAF Pro & Tone Zone. I tend to prefer that setup a little more in mahogany-bodied guitars.

B- When I bought my 2020, I bought a Air Norton and Steve's Special with it to swap out first thing!! Right now mine is in the middle of getting stripped, and gonna put a flame maple top on it. I'll have pics of the whole project.

The RG2020x?

I was actually planning on doing very similar mods to mine, but with a different finish.
Same pickup configuration and such.

I love yours though, killer swirl

Thanks

The RG2020x?

My 2020 was one of those e-bay happy accidents... I saw it up for auction and thought "wow... if I had a custom guitar built, it'd be pretty close to that...". The previous owner had all the mods done to it (it was swirled by Herc). I kinda wish it still had the 5-way switch in it. Just the other day I realized that it has a Les Paul switch in it so I get no coil tap in the middle position, so I'm waiting for the special 3-way switch from Dimarzio to show up so I can get my coil-tap back! Also, the 2-way switch for piezo/magnetic was replaced with a 3-way, but I'm not sure if it was done using Kevan's mod or not. Someday I'll get around to looking at it, but I'm electronically inept so I try to avoid the soldering iron as much as possible!
