Vintage Ibanez Question

Ibanez ever make like a tele or other fixed bridge single coil design that would give a very vintage vibe?

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

They made a Tele-style guitar but it had 2 humbuckers (Roadstar 580). Another was the Axstar series AX60 built around the mid 80's, but again, two 'buckers (and a trem). They made Tele copies with singles during the lawsuit era. I can't think of another Tele copy they made with single coils, though.

EDIT: How could I forget the Turbo-T? It doesn't really count because it had two humbuckers but it was Tele shaped so probably worth a mention.

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

Yeah back in the 70s they made lawsuit Tele copies.

The only other ones I know of are the Starfield Altair ones which were not technically Ibanez but hey

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

There's those new Tele styled Ibanez guitars that are coming out this year. FR series I think. But they have humbuckers in them.

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

Ummm - at the risk of asking a dumb question, why not shell out a few bucks and buy one of the thousand or so variants of Fender/Squier Telecasters available right now at your local Fender dealer?

The Ibanez Silver Series Tele copies from the late seventies are okay, but they are not better than say a MIM Tele Standard, and their pickups from that era were very so-so - in addition you'll probably pay way too much for one (assuming you can actually find one) as people have this misguided belief that they have some kind of "vintage" value.

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

I agree with David. If you want a Tele, buy a Tele.

It's not misguided, anything that becomes collectable due to its age falls into this category. If you look at the Mona Lisa, Leo forgot to give the poor dear any eyebrows, but that still has some kind of "vintage" value

Nah, sorry Jono, can't agree - The Mona Lisa has righful vintage vibe as she is a genuine Pre-CBS original (eyebrows or not - I hear radical eyebrow manicuring was big in the Pre-Raphaelite era in any case....) - Ibanez Silver Series Fender knockoffs don't deserve the vibe as:

a) they are a knock off.

b) they actually aren't nearly as good as people's fond memories make them out to be - speaking from first hand experience here - I had a sunburst Ibanez Silver Series Strat for many years, and in retrospect it was a very ordinary guitar indeedy!

Re: Vintage Ibanez Question

Yeah but it's a case of what peopl ewant to own, not particularly what plays best.

I'd rather play a brrand new USA fender tele, but I'd rather own something with the "right" name on the headstock, because that's what I collect, regardless of how it plays.

And because there's more than just me that feels this way they acquire "vintage" status. Even if they're dogs to play

Because I'm an Ibanez nut, pure and simple, for good or bad.
