WD40 to the rescue!

I had this problem with my 5-way switch on the first setting, the hum. I thought I would have to replace it...I even got this new switch. Today was the day to start the repair, when I thought why not put a little oil on it just to see? and low-n-behold...fixed it! It still has a slight pop in it, but it stays on an works fine..just a thought for those about to repair...

I once read a thread on another forum about this guy who always used WD40 to clean his rosewood fretboard. I'm glad this is not a thread like that one.

Thanks for the WD40 tips, I didn't know it could be use to fix that kind of issue.

It's suppose to also work to clean the green goop off your bridge and such. Haven't tried it though.

I have a problem with my switch but I think it is a poor solder joint from when I put in my Middle pickup. When I push against the switch in some selection locations it cuts out and sometimes it cuts out if I am between selecting. You think its solder or do you think WD40 might come to the rescue?

My solder joints are fine, that's why I thought it was the switch...just turns out it was a little dirt down in there..it is a 87 RG560..time for spring cleaning..lol

also a note..I didn't SPRAY WD40 in it..I have this WD40 pen..it just let's a drop or two in..not an oil bath..

Well WD40 is great for many things I woudlnt use it in eletronics and such. WD40 is a solvent and great for removing rust from trems and tremlock screws. I recommend taking apart the 5 way switches and cleaning them out and using contact cleaner from Radio Shack ment for lubbing and cleaning electrical contacts.

lol...I don't think Radio Shack exists in Belgium, but I'm sure I can find the cleaner in one of the electronic shops around here..thanks for the tip..

the silicon and lubricants in wd40 will overtime set on the the solder joints and cause them to corrode.
over time though..so be careful.

There is probably a little bit of solder hanging down from one of the tabs making contact with the switch case. Same thing happened to me, I thought the switch was falling apart..
