Weird X-series, please help!
Hello all, my name is Doug, and I just registered in hopes someone out there can help me identify this Ibanez x-series I own. I have never seen another one like it, and I'm completely at a loss as to what it is. This much I do know; I bought it new from the Guitar Center in Sherman Oaks, Ca. sometime in late '84 or early '85. The original pups were the "blade" type, I replaced those with the Duncans now in it. The serial # is D840392 and is located on the neckplate, the tremelo is a Floyd, but I seem to recall having the original replaced, it was a large funky looking thing. I don't recall it having a
locking nut
originally, I seem to remember having that put on as well. Sorry for the foggy memory, I have many guitars, but this one was my main stage guitar, its light weight and perfect balance was great for on-stage antics
I can't seem to post a pic here, but there are a couple of pics on my myspace page if you care to look. Don't worry, this is not spam, or some bogus personals add, this is just the only way I can think of if you want to see what the guitar looks like. The myspace page is myspace.com/jasonface1. The guitar is in the pic with my total collection (except for a pre-'74 Rocket Roll I just bought, but that's another story) it is the one just to the left of the Carvin Doubleneck. The color is a dark purple metallic. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the loooong post, and thanks in advance!
*EDIT* No need to go to myspace, scroll down for the pic. Thanks!

Thanks elcid, I uploaded to photobucket, but it says here I can't post attachments. Is that 'cause I'm a noob? Lets try this , see if it works...

Yeah, the one in the middle. I've always called it "The Wing". I can tell you what the manager at Guitar Center told me, for what it's worth. I was told it was a one-of -a -kind promotional guitar to help launch the x-series line, and that each Guitar Center in the US received a different, custom-made guitar for promotional use only. I bugged the manager at the store for months to sell it, he said he had to keep it on the rack for a few months, but gave me first dibs on it. Again, I take all this with a grain of salt, but still, I've never seen another like it. I'll have to research that story further. Are there any sites or places that can perhaps help ID the guitar by its serial #? I'm starting to wish I hadn't so heavily modded it, and it's got a fair share of dings too. I always considered it a player, but maybe I should treat it a little more gentle.

Re: Weird X-series, please help!
Your best bet might just to be to contact Ibanez directly. You should take the neck off and check the pocket to see if its stamped for any hidden info such as hand written lettering or anything.
Neck plate
SN's aren't really that accurate since the plate could have been taken off another guitar.

Re: Weird X-series, please help!
Thanks Lefty, I'll try that approach. Does Ibanez have a department that would specifically deal with historical type issues, or do I just need to contact their general customer service and look for an old-timer in the company? Is there anybody else that could be considered a expert on Ibanez history? I'll check the neck pocket too, I hadn't thought of that. The neck
pickup ring
is cracked, and the pickup is missing an adjustment screw, so this will give me a chance to fix it.

Hey Jason, not to be a d1ck but, you look like "Joe Dirt" in that pic. I do like the axe though.
Maybe Rich or Nuno might know something....

Re: Weird X-series, please help!
LOL Jimmy, I would have never thought that, but now that you said it I can see it....oh god, I think it's time for an image change. I got my hair cut a bit shorter a couple months back, hopefully I lost a bit of the Joe Dirt look

Re: Weird X-series, please help!
I don't know about Joe Dirt, due to the lack of mullet,(as Robb said above) but doesn't anyone else think he looks quite a bit like Tommy Shaw in that pic?

Wow! How'd I miss that?!?!
Seriously though, Tommy Shaw in a Social D shirt was my first thought.
