What Did I Buy ???

Just bought a beautiful RG770 with a flame maple top and cherry sunburst finish. Everything on the guitar matches up to RG770 specs. The pickups have been chaged to an Air Norton in the neck and Tone Zone in the bridge.

When I go to Ibanezrules.com and look thru the catalogs there, I see that RG770's were made from 1990-1993. However, according to the catalogs, there were not any made with flame maple tops.

What did I buy?

.....edit..... Take a look at the neck in the pics. It looks like the fingerboard is ebony instead of rosewood ? ? ?

Re: What Did I Buy ???

I had a 570 with a maple top, but in blue, so I guess they offered it in a 770 as well.

RG770FM
These were available in the early 90's.
This guitar is in the 1990 Ibanez catalog - page 16.

Re: What Did I Buy ???

It is a damned nice looking guitar, whatever it is. Not sure I like it with the sharktooth (is it sharktooth or sharkfin? I can never remember) inlays, but I've never been a fan of them. It'd look nice with a rosewood board and dot inlays though.

But regardless, congrats on the guitar!

Oh man, how did I miss that??? At the bottom of the page. I looked thru those catalogs several times and missed it. I guess it's a one year guitar, very cool. Thanks man.

Re: What Did I Buy ???

Wow, these things must be rare. I've been scouring the internet for info/pics and keep finding these 2001 Japanese market only RG770FM's which look just like a RG3120 with a middle pickup.

I've found only one 1990 RG770FM on the net that's in the USA and the guy is trying to sell it for $800. I found one in Russia of all places ( http://www.educatedscum.narod.ru/Ibanez770article.htm ) with the brown sunburst instead of the cherry sunburst.

What would you guys say this guitar is worth? It's a keeper for sure and I'm not selling it, just curious.

Re: What Did I Buy ???

Well I don't know the true value, it's so hard to say, but I'd be happy to pay $800 for one, no probs. Then again, I'm from the UK, so that guitar would sell for a LOT more over here, we pay more for everything than the USA guys do.
