What guitar should i get?

Hi. I need to get a second guitar. Currently i am using a rg120 which has been great. Now comes the time to decide what guitar i should get as a step up. I have a couple of options: I could get a ibanez ex3700 (been compared to rg500 series) for 175 dollars, an rg 500 series guitar in the 200-300 dollar range, or i could save up and get either an older jem777 or a newer jem555 for around 600-700 bucks. What do you think? (p.s: i'm not sure if i should put this in the jem forum, and i don't want to crosspost, so if it's not in the right place, feel free to move it) Thanks.

I think you should rule the 555 out immediately.

I still wouldn't class it as value for money. Sam669 is right, a used 5xx will serve you well.

I would probably have to disagree. I think if you love playing guitar, and you can live with your current guitar for a little longer, save up for an older Jem. I think in the long run you will happier if you do that. Just my 2 cents though.

$200 isn't bad, I don't think. Now you can save for a JEM!

As far as pickguards go, look at the EKG link above. Dunno about paint except the LGM link. ATD, but you don't want to get too expensive I don't think.

I'm fairly certain you can only get 555s in the US used i.e., old trems.

european guys should spend some time on ebay germany (.de). I found alot of the gear I own thanks to it, and there are 555s with EPII for a honest price.

I just discovered ebay.de myself the other day. I got myself a good JB Jr in black for an okay price.

There was even this nice RG502 BMS (Bird's Eye Maple Top) that was a real beauty. Unfortunately, I found out that they were selling only within Germany.

The older 7xx series USA guitars are nice---or are they not really us guitars--I am assuming they were made in the us and japan, I had one with us neckplate rg770dx--kind of different, but sweeeet guitar with ibzusa pickups--- and you can get one used in the $4-500 range.

US neckplates don't really mean much, just that it was probably assembled over here from Japanese parts... If it has an Fxxxxxx SN# it's MIJ.

I have 2 RG7xx guitars, an 88 750 and an 89 760.. The 760's been modded heavily, with a pickguard from EKG... Highly recommend him, he does great work..
