I was expecting this to be the very first comment...lol

Honestly the headline was more designed to a.) draw comments...(which it did) and, b.) Was more a reference to a legendary object long since lost...I was NOT actually trying to say that it was the end-all, be-all of guitars. Sorry if it came off that way. As we all know that is a subject that could be debated for months, and is clearly a case of personal opinion.

Well the guitar arrived...It is a serious blast from the past...stunning! The neck seems to be fine, no issues from the time spent in the case.

After the comments here I have decided to go ahead and keep it..."Pink DiMarzio's"....NICE....I like the idea... but I was always more of a lime green person, maybe neon blue...haha. I think what I am going to do is just replace the whole pickguard, electronics and all. Just take the original off totally, put it up, and load it with one with whatever pick combination I decide. Really want a sustainer guitar but have to check into if the fsk 101 requires routing. not cutting up the body for a 401, I'll pick up a 350 or something for that.

Anyway, thanks for all the comments...I'm going to go make my fingers hurt...lol

Sorry, could you elaborate. Other than needing an adjustment, what would make the neck "go bad" other than damage/warping. The natural passage of time shouldn't just "kill" a neck.

Glad to hear it's in playing shape after 20 years in a case. Please do yourself and ibanez players everywhere and neon that bad boy out with some dimarzios. www.guitarpartsonline.com stocks 9 or 10 different colors of knobs and switch tips for whatever crazy neon plans you may have. I don't think you'd be able to wipe the smile off my face for months if I got handed a dead mint 91 550 with neon dimarzios.

Stored neck disease will kill a neck, very slowly. As the neck shrinks from age it's like loosening the truss rod, and considering how it was "lost" it was left at pitch. There would be massive relief in the neck, and before you could come close to getting the neck straight it'll go into backbow on the first 3 frets. How bad it does is determined by how much SND it has. But 20 years on a Wizard can't be good.
