What Kind of Ibanez is that?????

Hey guys,

I have spent today practicing up with some of my old REH instructional videos from the past, and I realized that in EVERY video I played to today, the artist was playing a Ibanez that I was not framiliar with...

For example:
Paul Gilbert- Intense Rock 1 (Pink Ibanez in the video is a????)
Shawn Lane- Power solos (On the Cover??)
Ritchie Kotzen-Rock Chops (Looks like a Custom of some sort???)
Vinnie Moore- Both hot licks vids he plays a Ibanez that is like cream colored with paint speckles all over.....model???

Also...does Ibanez have any high end models that DO NOT have a Floyd Rose???

I know you guys can tell me!!

Thanks

I think that Paul Gilbert's pink Ibanez with the mini humbucker was just a basic RG model.

I'm not sure about the Shawn Lane one (haven't seen the video or the cover) but I know he used a custom Ghostrider, and I think he may have played an S series or two as well. (not sure though)

I haven't seen the Richie Kotzen video either, but I know that he used the Starfields for awhile, which were made by Ibanez, and I believe assembled in the USA in the early 90's. He had some Tele-type guitars that he was playing.

The Vinnie Moore guitar is most likely a Vinnie Moore model.

As for high-end models without Floyd Roses:

-PGM200, 300, 500, 800, 900, 90HAM & 10th (and probably another one or two)
-JS2000
-All of the George Benson/Pat Metheny/John Scofield/Artist models (most of which cost just as much or more than the standard sig. models. George Benson Millenium Model anybody? )

But, technically, NONE of the upper end Ibanez come with Floyd Rose trems. They're Ibanez Edge variants that are based on Floyd Rose licensed designs

PG's somekind of customized RG.. 3 way switch & a kahler ? that guitar looks different today.. full-size humbucker on the neck, 5-way switch, and fixed bridge.
Shawn Lane's is a 24-fret Ghostrider ?
Kotzen's is somekind of custom graphic RG.. horror movie posters paintjob and fret 21-24 scalloped..

PG's violet RG is a prototype built for him by the Ibanez USA Custom Shop.
it has a Duncan humbucker at the bridge and a Duncan minibucker at the neck, 3-way switch as said above, clear-plastic pickguard sprayed violet from the back, Kahler trem and straight headstock.
it's called Telesavalas...

Hi guys...wow I was pleasantly suprised to find this.

I actually own Telesavalas. Here's a quick shot of it taken a couple weeks ago:

A few years back, Paul yanked the Duncan mini HB out of the bridge and they put in a DiMarzio single coil and a DiMarzio sustainer system. I don't know who did it, because the DiMarzio sustainer back then was made for a 22 fret guitar. Paul was laughing telling me about it. Also, the guitar originated with a Kahler tremolo (the old school) and then got a Spyder, and finally Paul put the hard tail on there with some creative woodworking.

When I was out at Paul's place in September of '02 for the recording of the newest Racer X record, I found Tele hanging out in the guest bedroom in a pile of Ibanez teles and talmans. I HAD to rescue it. Dude! It's the Intense Rock guitar! No damn way! It was a wreck. Strings against the frets, the sticky stuff that held the fringe to the guitar was all over the place, as well as the residue from where the F-holes were when he was using the guitar in the Navy Seals soundtrack days. I pulled it out and asked Paul about it, and he told me it was in his plans to redo the thing, he just didn't have time.

A few months passed, and Paul contacted me about putting together a list management system to organize the thousands of emails that he gets every year. Well, over a ten year period, that was a TON. So I told him I'd do it and it would be no sweat. He then said, (in my best sparcely worded PG impression) "would a Telesavalas cover it?" Bam sure as **** on my doorstep showed up MY holy grail of shred guitar. I'd like to think of myself as a wired-in VIP type of dude, but it's more like, Ken and I do the Racer X site for free, so they gave us Custom Shop PGM's. I did a mailing list database, so I got the Tele. Actually, Paul was moving to L.A. from Vegas at that time...I look at it like he was thinking "one less thing to move."

LOL...regardless...I don't play it out, it stays at home, but aside from needing a neck overhaul, it plays awesome.

the Vinnie moore model used is a VM1SH (Splash) and i'm taking mine along with a bunch of jems to the jemfest UK next month, if you want to see one close up, who knows i may even let you try it.

you can see some pictures of the VM's at my site. mine is just finishing the electronic restoration stage, so no pictures as yet, but there are others.
