What pickup are you using as your middle single coil? (HSH) (pics inside!)

Currently I've got these in the guitar:

Bridge - Dimarzio Super Distortion
Middle - Single Coil from a Mexican-made Strat
Neck - Dimarzio Paf Pro

I forgot how weak and useless the stock pickups were on my Mexican strat (or any MiM strat I've ever played...) When I switch to any of the positions that use the middle pickup, it sounds almost as if the pickup isn't even there, or to put it better, it doesn't even sound like a single coil. I had a pro tech do the job w/ new pots and everything so I know its done right, so I blame the lack of tone on the pickup.

I want some major twang and spank when I use that pickup. I know there are a ton to choose from, and I am not partial to any particular brands. Anyone use these two humbuckers with a good matching single in the middle? Or, generally, what are you guys using as your middle pickup in your HSH guitars?

Oh .. I am sorry I cant comment. I have never used the middle pickup from any guitars.

S540 - Dimarzio Megadrive, empty middle pickup slot, PAF Pro.
I dont like middle pickups. They sound too bland IMO. Split neck + bridge is heaps better.

this thread reminds me that I always overlooked my middle pickup.
I don't really use it, but i'll keep the original middle pickup with my HSH and HSS guitar.

oh..forgot to tell, i once screwed up a nice originally equipped tone zone- blue velvet- air norton guitar.
I changed it to : duncan full shred - duncan lil 59- duncan full shred.
The lil 59 in the middle sounds like.. crap... not sure bad wiring or what, but i let someone did the wiring.
I learnt my leson, so in the future i'd be like : don;t mess with your middle pickup, leave it alone..

I like the S1, its cheap and does the job and I rarely use the middle pickup anyway

DiMarzio Blue Velvet in a Ibanez J Custom that i have. I like that pickup. I also have a Kramer Nightswan which has a Seymour Duncan JB Humbucker in the middle. Not too many guitars about with a humbucker in the middle postion.

Neck HB coil tapped is also a better sound than a middle SC imho.

Ever tried Hot Rails or a Chopper? Basically hums in a single-coil-size package. Sound rather tasty IMO.

I've got a strat hotrails that i'm tempted to put in the middle of my RG. It really needs a full revamp of the pups though, as I only actually use the bridge in that guitar anyway. Very tempted to disconnect all but the bridge pup anyway!!

I don't ever use the middle pickup...only when I want a nice glassy clean sound...then it is a hybrid of the bridge and middle...and I am really not concerned with what model it is, stock is always fine, especially with Ibanez
