you're probably better off...a lp custom is abt $1500 to $3500 regardless of it's age. how much can a 20th possibly go for($1200 if the seller is greedy?)? it's kinda like trading a vintage harley panhead for a kawasaki ninja, might be fun for the weekend, but you may feel silly on monday imo. a gibson will hold it's value. the 20th 550 will prob be found on **** in a few yrs for about $450.00. ? that said...it is really abt what you like, and what price you are willing to pay for it.

(coming from an oldschool metallica fan sounds weird haw?)
if you found that thing sitting around, you probably have more gutiars sitting around, that you could sell.
I'm 33 years old and have played guitar for over 25 years, so I'm hardly a 'youngin' lol
I bought the
Les Paul
10 years ago, on a 'whim' I guess. However, I've always loved my
Ibanez guitars
, Charvels back in the 80's. I've just never had that affinity with my Les Paul. I've never 'grown out' of Ibanez, having owned various models over the last 17 years, and can't see it happening any time soon, coming from an old school metal fan myself.

The Gibson is probably worth a few bucks more, but if you feel that you can happily let it go for something that you really want, then you're not losing.
+1
why not mate.. i would trade it in for sumthing that i want..

I wouldn't sell the guitar, if I were you...
But guitars are meant to be played, and if you're not playing the Les Paul, I guess I would sell it.

Re: Would you do it?
Don't make a rash decision like this just to cure GAS. Trust what has been said here several times already -- sell the LP if it's no use to you, get the best price possible, then buy an RG and have some cash left over. The 20th's are not hard to find and they'll be around for a while, so you have no need to rush into it.

Re: Would you do it?
+1! Be glad the trade didn't work out, the LP is worth A LOT more! I agree with getting what you really want vs. a guitar that never gets played, but don't lose a bunch of money for it. A couple hundred bucks is one thing, but that LP is worth TWICE as much as an RG20th. Sell it and go find your RFR
Edit - and put 800-900 bucks in your pocket!

i didnt mean you being young
but i ment like, later after playing for a very long time i think you might, grow outa it... but if you like ibanezs that much go ahead! just go into a local shop, ask how much u can get for it, then you can add 5-25% to that price and that should be a good deal for anyone who buys it and for you. (im guessing that your local shops are reasonable, buying @ 70% of their retail price)

Good luck on the sale dude
The deal falling through may have been a blessing in disguise. Once you sell your LP then buy your RFR you'll have enough dosh left over to swap those pickups over to something with a bit more bite

Re: Would you do it?
I wouldn't have traded a LP custom for a single 20th. Two 20th's, yeah. But not one. Maybe a 20th and a USA Strat...

Re: Would you do it?
hey RGR,
No offense man but, if you're going to trade an LP Custom for a RG20th in RFR, I have to tell you that you shouldn't even own a guitar period. Obviously you have no idea of how much your LP costs (provided of course the LP is in pristine shape as you claim). For the price of your LP, you can probably buy all 3 rg20th's.

UK prices differ greatly from US ones. Here in the UK, 20th's retail at £849, the Les Paul will probably fetch £1100 ish on the Bay, not much in it really. I've been
playing guitar
for 25 years mate, so I think I have a fair idea
BTW, if you wanna buy 3 20th's, let me know if you wanna trade.
