your opinions on the Ibanez GAX70

I just bought one (couldn't beat the price.. brand new 100.00) and want to swap pick-ups . I was just wondering what everyone on here thought about them.....

For a hundred bucks, who cares what others think of it?

Sounds like a fun project guitar, regardless!

good god....that's an awesome deal.

I wanna buy a really inexpensive Ibanez one day (probably a GRX or something) and swap the pickups in it also

A good beater, especially if you change out the p'ups. Where did you get it??
It'd be a really good guitar for experiments, say if you want to try home neck scalloping, theres a good $100 neck waiting.

I read somewhere that GIO range of Ibanez is made by Yamaha using the same production line and quality controll as the Pacifica.
Everyone out there is praising the Pac112 as the best cheap guitar on the market so the GIO line should also be decent enough.

I wanted to get a red GRX40 for the strat like look/feel but then I decided against it.
Bottom line is at that price anything is a bargain.

i own the GAX-70 with Seymour Duncans in it (Neck- '59 + Bridge- Custom Custom). it's generating cool warm tones since the pickup swap, giving my LP a run for its $$$. the GAX-70 is a decent guitar, wish the frets are a little bigger...

i also own the RX-40 & you can call it my 'project guitar'. i've been swapping parts of this baby with better bits & pieces i find in the shops. it's a waste of $$$ from a certain perspective but the guitar sounds better with my tinkering...

My pal got one a few years back. It had a few muted frets due to bogus frets, but otherwise it was alright. Replace all of the electronics, set it up, and you may have yourself a pretty good guitar.

I've got one, a GRX40CA (1997) and it's a really cool guitar. The powersounds sound cool and are indeed powerfull but I guess I will change the p'ups one day too. I was thinking of DiMarzio or Seymour Duncan.
Never heard that Yamaha actually makes the Gio's. If so, than it's pretty weird that the cheap Pacifica sucks and the GRX doesn't. A good friend of mine has the Pacifica and uses it only for guitarlessons so he doesn't have to drag his case along with his heavy Charvel Model 4 in it. His Pacifica really sounds terrible!!! There's no sustain and it sounds so empty, toneless! While the GRX I own sounds incredible, has a nice sustain and warm tone (except for on the neck pickup). The Pacifica has a better nut though. If you use the trem a lot it won't detune, while on my axe it does...
