Your thoughts on an RG520QS

Just started playing again after 10 years...........family,kids, etc.....

So anyway's I just bought this guitar for $325.00, mint in hardshell case.

SOLID MAHOGANY BODY WITH QUILTED SAPELLE TOP, TRANSPARENT BLUE STAIN, RARE AND DESIRABLE BUBINGA STRIPE NECK WITH ROSEWOOD FRETBOARD, HOT V SERIES PICKUPS AND THE ORIGINAL EDGE TREMELO.

Is this a good guitar?
Is it a good price?

Goog guitar. I like the brown one a lot more (i owned them both), because the blue is to dark and quilt doenst show up that much. With a tone zone or a Super 3 on the bridge its a killer guitar. And, you got a bargain for that price.
Congrats!

Thanks for the reply. I agree the blue is too dark. I have plans on refinishing it myself, but not sure what color of stain yet.

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

Very, VERY sick RG. I own one and I absolutely love it to death, she's my baby. Mine is also in the blue quilt, plus I upgraded the pups to Dimarzio ToneZone/Air Norton, in green . Looks very cool. I got mine for $250 with original hardshell case, in mint condish too. Mine is from '98, how old is yours?

Amazing guitar, and that is deffiently a nice price IMO. My favorite of all RG's is no question the 520.

Have I mentioned how much I love her?

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

i can say i just threw a super 3 in the bridge on my rg570. I love it , the pickup is a mix between a super distorion and tone zone. I have been told it is basically a really power breed . I dont know but if it is i may have to find me a breed or another super 3. i paired it with an air norton and it smokes .

Btw- that is a great score. The 5xx guitars are all very nice .

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

I own a '99 RG520QS in the brown colour (actually called Trans Black). And what can i say, its great.
I've upgraded the pickups to an Air Norton/Tone Zone combo and i like how its HH with a 5 way so you can get some nice custom configurations. Not really any complaints although i noticed it does come stock with the high E a little close to the fretboard (others have said this so it just seems to be how it is) but i easily adjusted it and its perfect for what i want.
Also a nicely finished, less common RG. I got mine with case, used for £255 in mint condition which i think is a pretty good UK price for a quality guitar lke this. Enjoy your purchase.

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

I have one... my USPS custom.... Paid 250 for it. has a full shred in the neck and sounds and plays great. But.... I had to buy a different neck for it so mine has a 550 neck now. Mine is a 99. I like it alot.

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

WOW! nice pic. I'm thinking about refinishing mine with some translucent lacquer or stain. Maybe a nice red after I highlight the quilt to make it more pronounced.
I've read horror stories about stripping one of these and loosing the vaneer.
So if this happens I'll just re-vaneer it to a quilted mapple.

Would like to get something close to this http://www.prsguitars.com/showcase/c...s/gt_hb2pz.jpg

Re: Your thoughts on an RG520QS

The vaneer is just glued on and is really thin, too much stripper can cause it to peel away from the sides. If you use the heat method it can loosen up the glue underneath and you have a real mess.
Someone here said his was put on with double-sided tape. Don't know if he was joking or not.
