ZR trem breaking strings..

Hey

I have a S470 with a ZR trem and lately i have to buy pack after pack of strings. what happens is that the strings often break (only at the bridge) when i pull up on the trem. as in if i do kind of a Dimebag style harmonic scream. at first i thought there where little sharp points or something like that on the bridge that break it. but there wasnt anything like that. The weird thing is that i am breaking all of them randomly.. what i mean is that if 3 days ago i broke the B string, than today i actualy broke the low E.
All the strings randomly break at the bridge, there are no sharp edges etc. and the string breaks on the inside... as in the wound part doesnt break.

i first played DR Dimebag signature strings because i though that since he used the whammy bar alot they should be good strings for it. then they broke and the guy at the guitar store told me to try Dean Markley Blue Steel. tryed those and they still keep braking... so it is either me doing it wrong or the bridge.

I hope this is not a very dumb post. if you have any ideas or have seen such problems before i would really appreaciate some advice.

Kristjan

Re: ZR trem breaking strings..

If I can think of anything I'll post. I've never had any strings break on my S2170's ZR Trem. I use D'Addario 9's & I pull up more than dive too. It's not a dumb post, this is where we get help and advice. I've learned a lot from the kind people on Jemsite. Are they breaking right at the saddle? Is it possible you tighten the screw on the saddle too tight when you string it up ? (Just a thought) If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Good luck , maybe someone else will have better ideas for you.

You may have "burrs" in the saddle. These are little wear marks that can catch and ultimately break your strings.

Just get very smooth sand paper, fold it, and sand the bottoms of the saddles. You should be fine after that. My UV had the same issue.

Re: ZR trem breaking strings..

thats the weird thing.. as far as i can tell they are breaking just a millimeter or 2 above the saddle.. but maby i am wrong.. ill try to change the hole set and not tighten them as much as usual..
here is another question? how do you know when they are tight enough.. i mean on the wound strings i can feel the wound part being squeesed when i tighten them..
thanks for the help..
