?? Classical guitar question ??

A fantastic player I know has a very expensive hand made one off classical and his suggestion to me with my $1,000.00 Classical (POS compared to his) is to leave it in the bathroom when showering as the steam keeps it humidified. He says he's been doing this for over 20 years and has never had a problem with his guitar. Has anyone else heard of this? Right now I'm just using the humidifier case component with the little sponges. For the last week I have kept it in the spare bathroom where my son and I take our showers (separately of course!). But is this too much humidity for the guitar or what? I have no reason to doubt the guy, as I have known him since we were kids, and he has attended San Francisco Conservatory, as well as other prestigious schools. His playing ability is phenomenal, though I am a little curious if anyone has ever heard of this?

Thanks for any feedback...

Certainly the humidity levels in the NorthEast drop too far in winter for most acoustic instruments to be left out of their cases. It sounds like you're taking care of your classical, but if he's an expert I'd likely consider following his advice, especially if the guitar is out of its case often.

Jim is right on the money - but be careful humidifying in the winter. Do not bring the guitar into an already hot and steamy bathroom from a cold dry room in winter like I did. The change was too drastic and I warped the neck on a Ramirez R-2.

Ruined my day.

Re: ?? Classical guitar question ??

Why not just get a room humidifier for the room the guitar is in, or better yet a whole house humidifier?
