'02 or '04 Strat

I just put a deposit down on an '02 or '04 used American made Fender Strat at a Guitar Center. They had it listed for $999, I got them down to $700 even with a hard shell case (non-Fender case). It is Surf or Mint Green, it has the tuners that lock in the back. I only noticed 2 very small blemishes, very small. Do you guys think this is worth it?

Congrats! Is it a maple board or rosewood? I love Surf Green strats!

Back about 10 years ago I figured out I love the color...

Enjoy it - and make sure you play on stage with it! One of the best colors you can get (IMHO).

Rosewood. I used to be a maple guy, but I like the warmth of the rosewood. Sometimes I think in the past I've played better on maple though (probably just in my head)!

Me too. I now prefer rosewood boards on a strat - make sure you lemon oil that board often. trem or hardtail?

Re: '02 or '04 Strat

I've always been a strat guy, and even moreso AFTER I got out of my "whoa, must shred!" phase... They're amazing instruments.

Oddly enough, I prefer maple, aesthetically and tone-wise. It looks cool, and it adds a bit of snap that you can't get out of rosewood. Just my opinion.

You GOTTA go trem if you're doing a strat, that's a major reason to pick one up in the first place.

Anyway, it's a great guitar, you're going to enjoy it. Play the heck out of it, the rest of us sure do .

Trem. Lemon Oil, I guess I should be doing that to my JEMs as well? It's weird, I used to think maple looked better, now I think the opposite. Don't know why my taste changed.

Re: '02 or '04 Strat

Congrats! The locking tuners are either aftermarket or it's possibly a deluxe - does it have the button on top of the volume knob?

Jemaholic, that's a lovely bird's eye maple neck & board you have there

I love the fact that my Tele has a maple board as it fits its character very well. Everything else has rosewood, though, which is probably best since I mostly play rock.

Either way you won't be disappointed, rick!

No button on top of the knob. What does that mean?

Yes, Oxford Valley. No, it is a Fender! I was checking it out back in Oct., it was sold than brought back for whatever reason just recently. I figured the second time around I better grab it!

I saw that G&L. It's nice.

Re: '02 or '04 Strat

Actually I just found out it is called Sonic Blue, it looks like a very pale mint green to me. It doesn't look blue I don't think. I thought it was called Surf Green, but it is lighter than the Strats posted in this thread.
