"50 guitars to play before you die"

Check it out:

guitars-to-play-before-you-die-part-1-198927" target="_blank">http://www.musicradar.com/news/guita...-part-1-198927

I haven't looked at what is #1 according to this site, yet. Could it be a JEM?

Re: "50 guitars to play before you die"

Ha Ha! they have "any random cheap piece of crap" as number #8 and a Yamaha Pacifica before an Ibanez Jem at #29!
I'm glad at least i have those 3 covered. LOL
I think a beginner guitarist or an accountant wrote this certainly not someone who plays guitar in front of people.

OMG it actually says that. I hadn't seen that yet... lol..

They did get it right to put the Telecaster high in the list, though. But, nevertheless lists like this are always kinda weird as it's all subjective, isn't it?

There are so many fenders on that list! All that and ONE Ibanez. Not even just one Jem, one IBANEZ!

I like none of those guitars.

The whole list sucks. Why didn't they put the Gibson Sheryl Crow or the Dove.
Why no Suhr in there?

Why no neck-thru Ibanez?

I don't want to play any of those guitars. To me it's not worth looking at them. Simply no interest in such guitars.

Most mainstream lists are bogus .I remember seeing a "greatest guitarists" ever list ..with Kurt cobain over EVH and randy rhoads ..and Jake E. Lee not even on it! ...whacked

Re: "50 guitars to play before you die"

Ok, firstly just no.

I don't think that the Jem is the best guitar I have ever played, in terms of sound or playability, but come on it is higher than 29

Not a single Charvel that I could see, and I think that most people who have played a good one would agree that they are something special. I don't think I saw an actual Fender Strat, which if they knew there stuff they would have had the 1982 in there.

What irks me completely and shows what most mainstream guitar magazines (and guitarist for that matter) are about is the look of the thing. Otherwise please explain why they would have a "budget" equivalent? Surely the point of each of these guitars is that they are unique to play. A £300 quid knock off just wont be the same and the idea that it would cheapens the whole piece further.

I guess that until coldplay and James Morrison start playing decent guitars no-one will care.

They're in no particular order, and the best news is that price-wise, there's something here for everyone.

How about a list of guitars to play AFTER you die?

Re: "50 guitars to play before you die"

I don't know. I agree with most of the list, in terms of guitar tone. Most of the guitars that they mentioned are famous, tonally-recognizable, versatile, good-sounding instruments. The list also includes acoustic guitars, resonators, and lap steel guitars, so whittling down a list to only 50 must-play instruments is kind of challenging.

Re: "50 guitars to play before you die"

Regardless of them being in order or not, there are some massive oversights and guitars which most people would agree shouldn't be on the list.
